Just wondering if it is possible to use an Alienware m17x R4 keyboard in the newer Alienware 17 laptop? As I like the look of the m17x R4 keyboard much more.

Also, probably a stupid question, but can you put and Alienware 17 motherboard into an m17x R4 case?

I see where you're coming from, the look of the new ones put me right off getting one.

The keyboard is almost certainly not going to fit, the 17 has programmable function keys and is a different shape.

I wouldn't even begin to see all the problem with trying a case swap, very unlikely unless you are handy with a dremel and epoxy resin!

    ;)

Thought as much for both of them. Not really worth it anyways as pretty much the only thing you can get better on them is a newer generation of cpu and gpu both of which don't give a super high performance boost anyways.
Although I do have a dremel and my mother works at a hardware store.... haha, joking. Wouldn't be worth it.

Nah, but it could be an awesome steam-punk project with access to a hardware store :D

I'm waiting out something that has much more power, hopefully the R2 (Dell call the AW17 the AW17 R1 I discovered recently) will have (GPU) performance that exceeds it's rather boring (IMO) appearance. Guess I am at the mercy of Nvidia and their long awaited 20nm cores....

i would think that the port locations would be different and probably the size of the board is different as well.

They are different. The OP would need some great skills to get it in there.
