I was playing with the Alienware 17 r5 at the store and was impressed with the quality of the keyboard and touchpad. The screen was really clear compared to the other laptops next to it. I was wondering for the people that have played on the various Alienware screens, how is the FHD quality compared to the QHD? I'm not looking at playing FPS games on a regular basis, but want good color accuracy with no ghosting for movies, role playing games and virtual reality (if that applies at all to the laptop screen).

    Should I even consider 17.3 in UHD (3840 x 2160) 60Hz IPS AG 300-nits NVIDIA G-SYNC w/ Tobii IR Eye-tracking, if I have the nVIDIA GTX 1070 card?

I am not looking to play competitive but more smooth high quality viewing on role playing games.

I've filled out the What Should I Buy Form and the recommendation is MSI. However, I was curious what the Alienware owners thought about the screen. The laptop felt very well made (unfortunately couldn't compare to MSI as nobody carries around here)

I am addicted to high refresh rate. 60hz looks and feels wrong. Gsync is usually unnecessary for 1070+ cards. The 3k screen at 120hz is the best option if you want higher resolution but it has slower response time than some 1080p panels but still better than the 4k panel. Best panel in my opinion is a 1080p/120hz/144hz for a 15 or 17 inch. Higher pixel density usually leads to less performance and scaling issues in windows. I play alot of rpgs and some fps titles. It really boils down to personal preference. All the screens are good but for your use case a 3k 120hz panel is a good middle ground with decent response time if you are a pixel junkie.

The 1080 gives 50 FPS average on Far Cry 5 on 75% settings (actually from 25FPS to 60 FPS) - the 1070 would be worse off.

Would have bought an MSI too, but MSI do not sell direct and you depend on a random dealer to keep whichever model and config they have in store... I bet MSI lose tons of sales for not having a strong internet store like Dell do.
