    Hello.
I recently bought the Alienware 17 whitch it comes with 750Gb Hdd.
I have also ordered from Amazon a new SSD hard drive whitch i would like to install it on my alienware.

Is it whise to clone the disks??

    Someone tryed it?

    What should i be carefull?

If i do recovery on the new ssd instead of cloning would be better?

    PLEASE ADVISE

    THANKS ALOT

Make a recovery usb or dvd using AlienRespawn. It works fine.

Can always try a clean install if you prefer as well. But the alienware factory image is pretty clean anyways.

Hi, not sure about that but it's quick enough to find out if it is going to work. I've used images for hardware swaps many times without a problem.

The only problem I have seen with the AW is that respawn sometimes wants to create the same size partitions as the original - and won't install on a smaller drive. I'm not sure though if this is a USB recovery or a system partition recovery?

It's designed for DR so does not have all the utilities cloning programs have. It might be fine but SSD's often come with a cloning utility that can resize partitions - just don't make any bios changes except the boot order and you should be fine.

Of course prepare for a clean install and some time to update it all ;).

    Good luck.
