Alienware 17x r4 with gtx 880m drivers problem HELP

im from POLAND and my english its little bit low.
im new in this forum and i don't know its a good plase where i put this post but anyway,

I have Alienware 17r4 with cpu i7 with intel graphic 3000 and i want to upgrade my alien to gtx 880m.

and try with drivers : v 344.11 +mod and 337.88+mod and problem before instalation nvidia when serching devices fixed.
and nex step I try set a clear instalation without and 3d etc. and its make a second and "microsoft display adapter" from device meneger hiden and instalation failed.
Intel 3000 its disabled. what its wrong.

You need to find an unlocked bios to allow you to disable the intel and force the machine to boot from the NV card.. This is always needed when a GPU is not an approved upgrade. Even then it might be problematical. I have not seen any success with the 880m (bad purchase I'm afraid!) in the R3 or R4.

i try unlock bios like this instruction-I make this thread for people who have bricked their bios on their r4(not the vbios), since the release of the A05 I have seen multiple people bricking their bios. The solution to this problem is really easy.

Go to Drivers en downloads | Dell [Nederland] and download the .exe file. Use winrar to extract this file, you will have a file named like this QBR00EC.fd, rename it to M17R4.hdr.

Now format an USB stick to fat/fat 32, and ONLY put this file on it. We are almost done!!!

Unplug the battery from your laptop and be sure the power adapter is not plugged in, and put the USB in the eSate(NOT USB SLOT). Now hold the end button and plug in the adapter, your alienware should come back to live now!!!! It will beep some times and restart few times.

now i Have a bios A05 i dont see any new option in bios and my sstem dont run because cant boot from msata windows 8.1.. please help what now.. thanks for answer

 

You need to find the unlocked bios file NOT the one from dell.

I believe there is a modified A12. Bios's earlier than this (around A08) do not support win 8's boot features and is probably why win 8 will not start.

You will probably need to do the filename thing on the unlocked bios rom file and blind flash again BUT you know the risks and some machines will not power up after messing with earlier bios's.

hey, i downgrade to normal A05 version and put new hddd because this version bios not suportet uefi and instal windows 7 pro with drivers 344.11 with mo and working in devices ok furmark gpu usage 99% and but what now to make the same in windows8.1

 

a need A11 unloked bios to m17r4 any links?

Have you tried a clean down of the existing install using DDU ( http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/)? Then try again.

Well i was wondering if anyone had a 880M working properly in the R4.. Planning on getting one from someone.. Also Micky do you have any idea if the AMD 100W heatsink will work with the card or I'll have to get a NVIDIA 680M one?

 

Ah, not looking at the posts properly. Not seen anyone try one since they got such a bad rep but it looks like the only problem was modding the inf so the installer can identify the card.

I have worked with a couple of users of a 100w AMD card on the 680m and was told the 780m was almost identical for padding and fit purposes. I'd assume the 880m is also very similar? The issue is that you want to get the NV x-bracket (sometimes called the GPU spreader). This ensures the correct clearance and pressure. Now the tricky bit. AMD use different size screws so the captive screws on the heatsink need removing to replace them with the correct size - no I have no idea of the 'm' number of the screws but the length will be the same as the originals.
