That wouldn't work because you would need a completely new display assembly with an IR cut out. The only place I know that does it is out of stock at the moment.

it is difficult to do. The LCD is housed inside the plastic panel. The only way to access it is to crack the plastic

Why don't you just phone up Dell and buy the upgrade from them? They'll send a tech over to install it for you as well.

It is very difficult. You will have to buy an unassembled display assembly ie source it direct from the factory which would be impossible.

Is it really worth to have 3D display than regular LCD? I am really confused to keep using 2D or upgrade to 3D.

I am thinking to buy a refurbished laptop having 3D display just to get a 3D experience!

There might a different motherboard revision required for the 3D screen to work properly. I'd do a research before spending money on such an upgrade. Also, Dell reps may not be able to 100% confirm this, hehe.

The motherboard don't have any connection for LCD, it comes from graphics card. The graphics card that have supports the 3D LCDs

Actually it is the motherboard that has the LCD connectors and not the graphics card.
Also the motherboard for the 3D and non 3D M17x R3 version is the same. There are two connectors on it.

I have a similar question, but mine is actually the opposite. My R3 will be coming with the 120hz 3D screen and I would prefer the full HD 60hz screen (mostly so I can utilize Optimus). I bought mine from the outlet, which is why it has the screen I didn't really want. If I contact Dell after I receive it will they swap out the screen for the 60hz 1080p?

yes katelin ,there is no diffrence between mobo.

You need to have the emmiter to get 3d, so if you replace whole display assembly with the 3d version you will have 3D. but its better if you sell this one and buy a r3 with 3d , there you can save some $$$ , because no one have done this upgrade.
