I'm thinking of buying new Alienware 17'' , so I have a question:
Can I install the official drivers from nVidia website ? Or Am I forced to use drivers from Dell ?
I could not find a clear answer for this question, that's why I started a new topic.
Thanks you in advance for your help.

You can use drivers from nvidia

What you may see here is ppl. trying to eke out the best possible speeds and stability and there is a group that would generally like dell's drivers bit others might venture to nvidia or laptop drivers.com even

    Hi,

Yes you can use drivers from NV. The confusion may have arisen because NV do not support new 'm' cards for a while until the OEM supplies them with the machineID/CardID combination. I was waiting around 4 months when the card in this one was new. There is a way around the problem with modified drivers but it's a pain that you should not have to go through.

Since NV drivers have been flaky at best for the last six months I recommend you stick with the dell one for a while and get some benchmark data before trying the latest one :)

Oh yeah, always roll back to the dell one if you need to call for support. They don't have any issue with you using any driver you wish but will only check a machine out with stock drivers ;)

Sometimes you may be required to modify the INF file of the driver for it to work well. You can get the file already modified from laptopvideo2go.com
