    Hello,

Dell is offering me an Alienware 23" 3D monitor for my Alienware laptop which has the AMD 7970m in it.

I just wanted to know before I take up this offer, will be laptop card be able to display 3D?

As a secondary question, how will I know what glasses I need to buy to work with the monitor because from what I can see it doesn't come with one.

Um...I thought the whole 3d thing was Nvidia's game. Also, why would they give you a monitor for a laptop?

Everything about this makes no sense...you MUST be reading something wrong.

i have the aw2310 and i have yet to see any confirmation of anyone who actually got a m17x/m18x to output 3d. i have heard ramblings and "it should work"s, but no actual confirmation. someday im gonna buy the mini display port to dual link dvi adapter to try that, but they run about 100$. bit pricey to me just to see if it will work.

Not worth it. Get an ASUS 3D monitor, you're basically paying extra $ for the alienware logo

They have a special where you can get the 3D Alienware monitor for $1 with any Alienware purchase (including laptops).

Alienware Laptops are very commonly used as desktop replacements so it's not at all unusual for them to be used with external monitors.

Thanks man. I have told them to not worry about it. I can buy a 3D monitor further down the track. I honestly don't think it's worth 3D anyway.

A DP to dual link DVi adapter is what you need for the AW2310 to output 120Hz with your M17x.
The M17x will only output 120Hz thru DP and the AW2310 will only do it thru the dual link DVi input.

    Yes, I can confirm it.
I was in your shoes until I bought an adapter and tried it myself.

It's not really $1. I got a special through something else. Real value out of pocket is $165 AUD. If you go the Alienware AU site you can see the special for yourself.

Is the screen worth $165? Even just to buy it and re-sell it in the box?

Alright if that's the case I'll message the rep and tell them I'll take it for $165 and then I'll probably just sell it on eBay while it's in the box.

    I don't want to pay another $200 for a 3D vision kit...

She also offered me a multi-coloured wireless printer for $19 not sure I want a non-laser based printer because the cost of ink is worth more than the printer...
