This is the email I received from my son:

Something is wrong with the AlienWare. You know how I had it on for several days? Well, I shut the monitor, but I forgot to turn the computer off. When I went on it to check it, it said it was on, or in standby or something, but it looks dead. It's not even making a noise. I think it may be in standby mode, but it's not waking up. Could you look at it as soon as you read this? Thanks.

What actions should I take? I've never had this problem with it but I've never just shut the monitor without turning it off. He's 15 so he's allowed to learn from his mistakes. We have a warranty until November 7 so I want to check what I can before I call them in. Thanks.

I'd unplug it from the wall and pull the battery and pop it back in.

I think it went to "sleep" do as above and see what happens.
Keep in mind that the majority of systems(even the latest) fail in some form or another to come back from an extended period of hibernation so if you can avoid that state by turning it off and simply shut it down after every use, you'll be fine.

I know but he's 15 and sometimes 15 yr olds don't think, lol. We were all there once. The computer is back and running. I just bought a 2 yr in home warranty for it. He loves it so I thought it was best to keep it running. Sometimes he doesn't trust his mom, so he needs to hear it from all the experts on notebookreview.

He's also welcome to join the forum as there are kids of his age around here.

    Take care

tldoney, nice to see you back.

I remember those days, challenging my mom on everything. Little did I know, I was dumb lol. Looking back she had a lot of right answers :p Glad you got it back up and running. And a warranty is a good investment. If he has issues or that thing goes kaput, he'll likely end up with an M18x, being that he had a dual gpu setup, if that is indeed what he has, other wise an M17x R3 for a single card system. I loved my R1, but returned it since the R2 came out during my 21 day return period.
