You won't need a new brick for the 7970m in crossfire. If you get the dell ones, they are "plug and play".

    Hi and welcome to NBR.
Yes upgrade will be fine and no need for new power brick unless you crossfire with the 7970m.
Good luck with it and welcome to the club :)

You will need a new brick for crossfire. The GPU's alone might use 200W alone. Add your 55W CPU and you owe power. (yes it delivers more than 240, but for how long?)
You will have to have a 330W with parts from a 240W (ID chip) to make your R2 recognice it.
Single GPU is good enough with the 240W.

7970M alone is still way faster than your setup in crossfire.

Well depends on what is expencive.
Ebay still have plenty both 240 and 330.

If the "rareness" was GPU's and not powerbricks you are quite right.
They are harder to come by, but i guess still possible on Ebay.
You just have to make sure you get the correct version of the cards wich is a hassle.

From the post i was not sure you guys talked about the need for a plug in power brick (since he asked for that specificly,) or the need for 7970M GPU.

Original question: "will this upgrade work and if so will i need a new power brick?"
Answer: "You won't need a new brick for the 7970m in crossfire. If you get the dell ones, they are "plug and play"

From my reading there: All dell 240's are plug and play. (He would need a 330 mod to do crossfire. )

    On GPU's:
I would expect also the Clevos with Clevo VBIOS to be quite the plug and play btw, but could be missing sound for HDMI, but I think i remember from the back of my head someone that has sound too.

The OP meant to ask if he needs a more powerful PSU if he decides to go with xFire. The answer in that case is above, yes he needs a 330W adapter for that.
