Hello guys. I noticed yesterday a hairline scratch at the bottom center of the gorilla glass of the M17X R2.

It is not a deep scratch but once screen is powered on, the hairline scratch gives this annoying rainboy affect.

Are there any solutions to filling or polishing the scracth. I have yet to try the vasaline trick. Just wanted to ask for help on this first before I do anything stupid.

I wouldn't have mind replacing the actual gorilla glass bezel but the process (as seen in a teardown video) is very difficult since the gorilla glass is glued down hard and is not like an "easy snap on snap off" process like my M11X R3 bezel.

Any help would be great. I heard of people using car polish to help with scratches. I was thinking since scratch is not on actual LCD itself but on the gorilla glass, that polish should be safer to use.

Trying to replace the gorilla glass bezel could cause even more issues. I would recommend you to try the vaseline trick, I personally don't recommend any of the methods found online, I've tried some of them and none has worked for me.

So does your screen also have scratches as well?

Yeah, I had similar problems with my M17X R2. Seems that the keyboard scratches the screen when the laptop is closed. I noticed my first scratches after carrying the laptop in a backpack for a long time. I managed to avoid more scratches by gluing a piece of rubber, at the left and right side of the laptop, below the keyboard. This causes the screen to be placed a little farther from the keyboard when the laptop is closed. It worked very well for me, as I do not have a lot of more scratches on the screen and I carry my laptop a lot!

The thing is that I was very careful with my screen always putting a protective film between keyboard and screen. I babied it but it still managed to get that hairline scratch. I will try the Vaseline trick.

Any other tips and solutions guys? I was wondering what kind of glass material is used on the M17X R2 gorilla glass?

I thought it was plastic actually, so just use any methods you would normally use for plastic scratches. There was some compound you could buy which takes scratches out but I cannot remember the name unfortunately.

Was it by any chance called Novus? Cause I do have Novus scratch remover and haven't tried it yet. Just bought it a month ago but forgot I had it.
