My computer kept glitching out on Guild Wars 2 and crashing, so I tried switching the Nvidia drivers I was using and ultimately tried reinstalling the client. While it was installing, the computer crashed; won't boot up into windows and startup repair does nothing. I'm trying to use AlienRespawn to reset it to factory default but it's stuck at 1% on the "Reinstalling your selected system backup..." section. What should I do?

It's been going for 4 hours now at 1%. I'm really at a loss for what to do. I don't want to turn it off in case everything gets messed up, but I guess that's realistically my only option.

    Yeah, sounds like it :(

What is your drive configuration, raid? You could also try to default the bios in case something there has gone weird??

Was just a normal setup. I was able to finally get it reset by just not caring about keeping data and going for a clean reset,

Problem is now, this comp keeps having graphics crashes. Haven't tried any games besides guild wars, but it's crashing at windows now. I even got it to do the xp window thing. Could it be a problem with the actual graphics card? Should I send it in for repairs?

First thing, when you say a 'clean reset', did you get respawn to restore? To factory? Or something else?

What display (3d)? and what nv card?

Clean factory reset with no data on it. It has everything on it the same as when I received it, save for hardware being older. 3D display with 560m nvidia card.

It's now at the point where after windows crashes, it needs to do startup repair, and it can't fix itself. Factory Resetting again just causes this cycle to repeat. It's definitely some hardware problem, or something software related I do not have the resources to fix. I'm sending it into alienware as soon as my college gives me a mailing address. I guess it's lucky it happened now because my warranty is almost up.

OK, if a factory reset (with just the dell drivers) and it still crashes then it does indeed sound like it's hardware related - could even be the HD corrupting files. My next question would have been warranty :).

If it's getting close to expiry still call them and log the call even if you have no mailing address yet. Hope you get it fixed!

    Good luck.

Edit: In desperation, if you have the time you could always try a clean install, but a fair amount of work and quite possibility going to be the same :(

That would be very much appreciated, especially since I've spent the whole day on the phone with alienware tech support people convinced that it's not a hardware problem and that I just need to pop in the install disk.

Just did the clean install. As expected, didn't fix the problem at all. Plus now I have the added benefit of not having alien respawn. Yaaaaaaaay.

I'm going to call them up now and tell them they need to fix it.

You can re-install AlienRespawn, just make sure you've got all your drivers installed or the backup won't include them.

What glitches are you experiencing with Guild Wars? Do you get the same glitches on other games?

I am having the same issue. I tried to do the alienrespawn and it freezes it 3%. Left it on all night and that's where it's at. I powered down and tried it again and the same thing. I don't have a system disc, just what's on the computer. Any thoughts?
