This one is odd, but can yous confirm what I am experiencing here ...? :D

I thought IGFX switch was still used on M17XR3/R4?

Machine came with 660m originally as far as I know, and then has been upgraded to 675m.

Anyone wants to tell me something? :)

PS: Its on A13 official BIOS

    Thanks

That's weird.. I saw you buy that 17 and it should be working with the 675M since it is an offical card in thr R4...

yea, well I'm yet to finalize all drivers setup to have OSD tool working, I wonder if unlocked BIOS would allow me manually to run iGPU ONLY while nvGPU still plugged in the system :) I have found so far on the www that I could run either ONLY 675m or iGPU&675m but not iGPU alone, like in M18X... I am going to try some time later the unlocked bios to find out if I can run on iGPU only.

Also, are there few different options for CPU fan in m17xR4? one currently present is somewhat low capacity just ~2cfm and looks like really low spec fan, was just wondering.. GPU fan looks like its fan type from M18x, but CPU fan looks like acer/samsung/hp generic fan... of course its all made for this machine aint nothing retro-fitted tho! :)

yeah the CPU fan isn't that good... I was looking to upgrade my fan too but nobody answered my question in the fan thread... I'd prefer if I could just directly screw it in..

well, that'll be interesting, I will see my M18xR2 fans which will be closest or even direct fit to M17xR4, update in 10-20 mins on fan's matter ;)

UPDATE: My m18xR4 fans: GPU=11.4CFM (equivalent in size to my m18xR2 CPU fan 1:1 measurement, only all clips would need to be DIY'ed, or use with 3M sticky foam adhesive tape at the bottom of the fan to secure in place)
CPU fan=~2.3CFM... now that is a joke, why and how did Alienware R&D team did this back in a day ? ... I cant even imagine :D

The CPU fan is relatvelly small compared to M17XR4 GPU fan, and GPU fans of M18XR2 system are even larger than the big enough GPU heatsink of M17XR4... so I guess only way is a m14xR2 Heatsink of ~10.4 CFM

Will see where do I grab one... :) UPDATE: Grabbed one on ebay , just type in this ebay item # 400709019792 and hit search ;) cheap as it can be incl free postage or express if you desire so.

PS: @ Mods, This got bit out of topic, but if you could kindly please move FAN's related conversations moved to appropriate thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...n-mod-idea-share-your-knowledge-opinions.html
