    Hi, I have an Alienware M17X R4 with a dead 7970M, and I'm trying to decide if I should fix it or sell it on, it's in very good condition with one small scratch on the lid, and it doesn't appear to like hibernation or sleep mode in windows 10, specs as follows;

    i7-3630QM, 7970M(Broken), 1080p 60hz screen, 8Gb Hynix 1600 RAM, 128gb Samsung mSATA SSD, 500gb WD caviar black 7200rpm, PLDS DVD Writer, Killer 1103 wifi, Windows 10 Home, GA240PE01 PSU, plus the rest, which I believe is standard across variants.

    I'm currently weighing up keeping it for music production and photo editing when visiting friends, selling it as is, or adding a cheap GPU such as a 660M and selling it, hoping that would make it more desirable and that I would recoup my costs.

    Any idea what it could be worth?

    Can still get a fair bit out of it, I'd buy a Firepro M6100 if you want to keep it or sell it with a dGPU that works.

    Probably about $300-350 ish.

    Thanks for the response kingofswag187, I've found an 'new' Firepro M6100 from a reputable seller, so placed an order.. I'm just hoping it is indeed new stock :)
    I somehow missed this card when doing my research, so thanks for the heads up.

    Native fan support with the m6100 on the r4?

    Doesn't work natively on the AW 17 R1, so wouldn't assume so.

    Installed a Firepro m6100 today using the old AMD heatsink and x-bracket, some cheap 6.0 W/mk thermal pads, and some NT-H1 paste I had lying around.

    HWiNFO is required to control the GPU fan cooling the Firepro m6100.

    Both of the fans in the Alienware m17x r4 are controlled as one in HWiNFO, so both the CPU and GPU share the same RPM steps. They can be configured to trigger at different temperatures, which I guess could come in handy somehow, but it can get pretty loud when both fans spin up to ~4000 RPM.

    I forgot how noisy this thing is haha.

    GPU idles around 45degc, and hits 82degc in unigine heaven and furmark.
