Looks like a day or so ago Blizzard did a huge round of beta invites for Diablo 3. I just now got mine set up, and so far it's running VERY well on my M17x R3. (See my sig for specs) - My framerates were a solid 80 at 1920x1080, all max settings, and indoors the framerate becomes almost TOO high and the screen tearing becomes very bad. Enabling vertical sync fixes all these issues.

I am, however, getting some pretty consistent stuttering... especially when new areas load. I also get lag when attacking monsters, which really sucks because that's kind of the focus of this whole game. It's playable but the stuttering gets really annoying. I realize this is only a beta, and I'm sure they will continue to optimize the game before release.

Is anyone else having annoying stuttering issues with Diablo 3 on their m17x? I wanna see if it's just me, or if everyone else is having similar problems.

Did you let the game download completely? If you stopped the download before 100% finished, you will get consistent stuttering.

Also, your first few runs through the game will be met with lag. Especially after immediate logins. Blizz is still optimizing battlenet for D3.

Yes! In my eagerness I did try playing the game mid-way through the download. The stuttering was very bad, to say the least.

I went back and let the game finish downloading, and my stuttering has been reduced... but it's still there. It gets really bad when I attack things.

Yeah it'll do that. There's still alot of lag in the last 2 days due to the flood of people. Give it a bit of time and it'll be fine.

first time I opened the game there was a 1 second lag, then everything went alright, now I don't get any stuttering or lag, I didn't check the FPS but I am sure it was not 80 anyway.. good performance though

So you don't get any stuttering? I just played through the quest where you need to kill the Wretched Mother... I had stuttering as I attacked the zombies, and then stuttering when I leveled up.

and when I attacked one zombie, it was like had I network lag... I just stood there swinging but nothing was happening. After about 5 seconds, the game "caught up" and all the monsters shifted around.

This game needs serious optimization, that's all I can say :D

I've been running the Diablo 3 beta for a few months now...and I think the stuttering is related to the battlenet servers more then anything. I consistently get frame rates in the 90s+ but still get stuttering.

I will say that the stuttering is worse when more people are online and not bad during less peak times. Unfortunately since it requires online to play, I don't know that there is any way to rule it out completely.

It is Beta though, so I imagine a lot of this will disappear the closer we get to GA. I have noticed that the stuttering has gotten better (and in some cases worse) depending on the version, so hang in there.

Also since the game isn't released yet, I'm certain that there will be driver optimization for the game as we get closer as well.

I hope so. I like the gameplay but the stuttering and lag is annoying. I like the physics and art style, even if the graphics are pretty dated.

just tried, no lag or stuttering, maybe you are hitting throttle mate? or too many users in your region?

Nah, my 580m hasn't throttled once since I got my laptop. I can run Furmark for 20 mins with no throttling.

I am using the stock video drivers though... Dont wanna break hdmi-in

I have the stuttering too. This problem definitely isn't limited to AMD or Intel CPUs, AMD or nVidia graphics cards, or desktops or laptops. It seems quite a few people with quite a few different systems have it.

It's just annoying enough for me that it makes it not fun to play the game. My FPS is a solid 60+ (everything maxed, V-Sync on) but every once and awhile, as you guys have said, the FPS lurches to 10 or 20 or 30 or whatever briefly before quickly getting back to 60.

One fix that is cited a lot is disabling sound or reducing sound channels. I have tried both on my laptop, and neither have helped, but I figured I'd throw that out there if anyone else wants to try.

I really hope this issue is addressed before Diablo 3 is released.

My issue isn't low framerate, my framerate is 80+ without vsync... however even with this high framerate, I'm getting stuttering when I attack things sometimes. I also get jittering when I run into a new area. I'm also getting instances where I'm "lagging out" while playing by myself... I'll be standing there swinging my weapon and the zombies aren't moving. I'm also getting a weird graphical stutter for the level up animations.

That is really weird, I don't have any one of these, I didn't check fps ever in D3 but it was so fluent, no need I guess, I will check it as soon as I get back home, but I doubt it will be 80+, still I don't have any stuttering, even when I am between 20 zombies in cathedral, or skeleton king  maybe it indeed is a server problem (because you keep swinging the sword means there is latency)

I have cable internet and it's not super crazy fast... but I've never had a problem with it before. A lot of people told me that because they've added so many new people to the beta that the servers are stressed and to give it a few days.

I will give it another go later on and see if things have improved. I don't know if it's just a DRM thing or what, but having to be constantly connected to play Diablo 3 kinda sucks - What are people who are traveling supposed to do?

Haha, don't get me started on that.... I think it's dumb they're letting people buy/sell items for real money. I don't really care if someone wants to pay X dollars for a certain piece of armor or whatever... but who wants to do that? Wouldn't gamers rather get the item the normal way? I think this auction house is going to create two sets of gamers... those that can afford to buy all the powerlevel stuff and the rest of us who want to play the game fairly.

but I guess I see why Blizzard did it.... without a cash auction house, it'll be like Diablo 2 with all these 3rd party item farmers who most of the time just scam you - and that in turn creates more hassle for Blizzard....

I don't know, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth... the whole concept of it. I can tell you for one, I'd probably never pay real money for some pixels on a screen.

To answer why you have the problems with stuttering and lags, I can only tell you the following:

BETA tests are made not to let people play the game for free, but to actually report bugs/findings about the game that the GMs need to know exist.
Therefore you should've already posted your troubles with the game on blizzard official beta-testing forums and let the Mods take care of you.

Any BETA that is made (especially close-beta test) is looking for your support.
Please act accordingly so that we all could play the game without problems when it comes out :D
    thanks

dude, it is not very different than 1.5million (or was it 10?) paying 20 bucks per month to play WoW for the past 8 years... this RMAH will be the genius idea of 21st century gaming I am telling you. I will do a furmark for you later on, I will let you know my temps

I do like the idea of selling items I dont need for cash and maybe making a little money on the side...so I guess it's not all bad :)

And yeah, lemme know your temps. Furmark hits the 77 throttle but the Heaven benchmark doesn't. Ran it twice and it never skipped a beat. I Also played Diablo for an hour or so... Much less stuttering and lag this time. It's still a little bit there but its much better. My framerate is a solid 60 with vsync.

    hello guys

    I have a m17x r2

    i7 [email protected]
    4GB ram
    5870CF 2GB GDDR5

I checked on the Diablo 3 recommended system requierment, my spec should be fine, I also checked on Can You RUN It | Can I run that game | Game system requirements and it telling me that my system are way better than the diablo3 recommended system requierments.

however, when I was playing D3 open beta, sometimes I got huge frame drop, and it doesnt like any other frame drop I had in other games (which like lagging and consecutive pics. In D3 the frame drop I had was like the game was put into a slow motion, whichmeans all the animation were continuous, but in slow motion.

Sorry about my bad English, hopefully you can understand what Im saying here ><

anyway, D3 gonna release in several hours, I really want to solve this problem now so I can have a better experience.

really need help on this issue. ><

    btw, I use 12.4 dirver

in addtion, sometimes I have better fps when I turn off the crossfire, is that normal? I dun really know how to setup the ccc tbh ><

one more thing is, normally when I start to play a game, the fps is fine, but after few min, it starts to drop, i guess it has something to do with the GPU temperature. what can i do about this?
    :(
thanks to everyone for your helps

Anyone have the old m17x and playing Diablo 3 successfully? I'm so laggy its like slow motion then the monsters teleport blink to munch my face off.

    Intel Core2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz (3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
1GB Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M - SLI Enabled
    320GB 7,200RPM (xMB Cache)
    Windows 7 (64-bit Edition)

I try to update the nvidia drivers but the Geoforce site says I need to go to my manufacturer and that site in unnavigable.

The servers have been up and down and the game just came out yesterday. Give it a couple weeks and maybe a driver update and the game should run fine.

Is there an easy way to update my drivers? I haven't been able to find it.

I suffered from lag yesterday too.

I think this whole D3 launch has been an epic fail.

But the lag isn't what my biggest issue is. I'm getting booted from the servers every 2 - 20 mins...usually within 5-10 mins of gameplay. Then i have to relog back in. It seems that its affecting thousands of others out there. And it renders the game almost unplayable. I'll be level 100 and still be in act 1 from all times i have to redo sections.

What pisses me off is the no offline play for single player. This whole experience has put a sour taste in my mouth

i just dont get it. My internet connection is stable and works fine with every other game...except this one. So it has to be server side. The D3 forums are filling up with people who have 5-10 mins of play, then they get booted from the game, requiring a relog of their battlenet account

    I'm not happy lol

Diablo 3 is kind of strange, in that you can have a high framerate and still experience weird... stuttery jittery .... weirdness.... I attribute this to the fact that it's so network bound, and Blizzard's servers are kinda sketchy at times.

The nvidia site should not be telling you to go to anywhere else to get drivers. Pick your model manually if the automated tool is giving you crap.

My friend's laptop is worse than yours and runs this game acceptably. Something is definitely wrong. How are your temperatures? What's your net connection like? ... dumb question, but if you've got optimus, are you whitelisted?

I've fixed all my jittery issues by enabling VSync, which in other games, makes matters worse for me. In the Beta a few months back, Vsync fixed it as well.

I'll give the Vsync a whirl. That is in Nvidia settings - hard force vsync?

When I manually search for drivers I come up with this: Drivers - GeForce

^ when I run the results it says "not compatible" and will not let me progress.

I didn't know about white-listing (noob right?). I'll give that a whirl tonight! How to whitelist a game with Nvidia's Optimus - YouTube

That's disapppointing. I wonder why we are getting different experiences. I played yesterday after work just started after I killed Leoric up to maybe 20% of Act 2 without disconnections. BUT even having high FPS averaging 70, I am getting occasional short freezes but the FPS in my OSD is not dipping down.

I expect a dip in the FPS when getting freezes like that like when I play on my old desktop with 9500GT.

I'm not sure how you guys call it but its like stutter but not on the sound but on the graphics? I didn't see any of those in Act 1 :(

Btw, how is your latency? Did you try doing trace routes? Maybe there is a connection from server to your provider that gets bad in time causing your disconnections.

Not to hijack the thread BUT Diablo 3 gave me a message before playing saying that my drivers werent updated for the 6990m (I am on the 12.2 previews)...could that be the issue?

btw I need help lol. I went to go get the 12.4 driver which was released 4/25/12 and cannot do it. I am currently running the 12.1 or 12.2 previews (I cant remember which).

    when installing it says:

"AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. The version of your graphics adapter is not supported. Please contact your notebook manufactor for a graphics driver update"

    Anyone?

Yeah I noticed last night they weren't even letting folks (well me and I assume others) sign on to the battlenet servers. Considering that they are very experienced on this side (both with WoW and Star Craft II), you'd think crowded servers would be the least of their concerns. Ah well, maybe tonight.

i occasionally get that same stutter too. i think this is something that Blizzard will have to fix...and hopefully soon.

I will do more troubleshooting when i get home today. Hopefully, i can play for an extended run without getting disconnected.

Stick to the 12.3's for now. 12.4's seem problematic for many people. Then go to the 12.5's when they get officially released. I'm on 12.5 betas

    Try these Craigery:

Boo, I'm pretty sure I did everything graphics-wise in game that I thought might help.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the latest drivers?

The game is preforming a little better today. I have never been kicked from a server, but i do experience lagg at what seems to be random times. I'll probably play through the whole game like this and then and as soon as I beat it Blizzard will fix everything lol.

Unfortunately I think a bulk of the lag is server related and not so much system related. I notice lag at differing times as well, and sometimes there is little going on at the time. It was like this during the beta and I know several folks had complained then, so it appears that it has carried over now that the game has been officially released.

It's possible that now that the game is out, video card drivers will be released to enhance the experience, however not much can be done if it's server related from our end. Just gotta hope they can sort it out as best as possible.
