    Hi

I own a alienware m17x . I've been experiencing problems with my discrete graphics setting .
    My specs are :

    Os : Windows 7
    Cpu : Core 2 Quad 2.00Ghz
    Ram : 4 Gb 1033 Mhz
Graphics card/s : Geforce 9400MGT in integrated mode
    Geforce GTX260M
    Bios Version : A05
    Geforece driver : 266.58

When only running in integrated mode everything works just fine .
When pressing Fn-f7 for hybrid mode , it asks to reboot . Upon rebboting
everythin is fine until it get to the login screen . Once logged in my screen goes black and i can only see my cursor .

Before this happened , it could play for about 2 hours and then my laptop would just for no reason shut down . Upon restarting it would say that windows recovered my graphics driver .

I've also lately got a lot of blue screens regarding my graphics cards and/or drivers . Not sure .

Can anyone please help me ........

Thank you for your help in advance

    Henry

You have to clean the old video driver first:
    Download CCleaner(you'll need it later).

    1. Uninstall your Video driver:go to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program and uninstall nVidia Drivers

    2. reboot in Safe Mode(repeatedly press F8 while booting > choose Safe Mode) and run CCleaner > select Registry > Scan for issues > Fix selected issues.

    3. reboot and run your P06 driver install again.

Everything was fine, then suddenly black screen with cursor...

Tried everything, including a full system wipe [ARGH I wish I didn't go through that, had I known the following]

For me the solution was to uninstall the NVIDIA 3D [something] software, which was installed with the NVIDIA driver update bundle I downloaded from the nvidia.com website.

    Solved

You don't need the 3D bundle on the m17x R1..
