Hi, i hope someone will help me about my M17x, some days ago sometimes my laptop started to flickering the screen only when i was writing on the keyboard, i though was the lcd flex so i decided to check the lcd connector behind the keyboard. After two days the problem was the same but the flickering was more intensive (about 15seconds) untill the screen became white, i decided to power off the pc. After that when i restarted it the screen was like the links posted :

    Flikering screen 01

    Flikering screen 02

I tried to connect on external screen but it doesn't switch the image.

Could be the lcd flex? Because the connector doesn't connect properly on the motherboard chip.

    Connector

Just in case should be the lcd flex which model should i buy? I've found this on my Ebay:

    LCD flex Ebay

Today i have turn on the pc and the screen is completely blank, and sometimes the pc it doesn't turn on and the alienhead power doesn't light up.

Another things when i disconnect the ram the SCROLL,CAPS and NUM doesn't make their own work ( i mean doesn't flash ).

I'm not so skilled like you guys about the pc but i'm not completely newbie that's why i decided to post my problem in this forum. I hope someone will reply and tell me some advice.

Could be the LCD or the LCD cable.

Replace the LCD cable first, and if that doesn't work, your LCD must be on its way out.

On second thought, that could be the GPU dying. Thankfully because it's an Alienware, it's GPU can be replaced with any and I mean any MXM 3 card whether it be in the TYPE A or B format.

hi, first of all, rly thanks for reply, for the lcd flex cable is it correct the cable that i linked? because my doubt is if the cable is shorter then mine.

    Edit:

Today i have turn on the pc and the screen is completely blank, and sometimes the pc it doesn't turn on and the alienhead power doesn't light up.

Another things when i disconnect the ram the SCROLL,CAPS and NUM doesn't make their own work ( i mean doesn't flash ).

Solved, i found the problem about the "no turn on the pc", Was the flex that connect the motherboard at the alienhead control panel. The other problems still persist.

Your lcd and cable are probably fine; if they were at fault you would still have a working external display. This leaves your GPUs, try removing one and run each gpu only as single. It's unlikely both are defective.

Well, i don't think is the gpu fault. I tried the integrated gpu the Nvidia 9400m one and the problem still persist, i can't switch the gpu anyway because the lcd is totally blank. Today i saw something strange on the lcd connector, maybe this is the problem. I found the lcd connector worn on the left side as you can see in the picture and sorry for the bad resolution:

what do you think about that?

    Thanks for reply guys :D

LCD completely white means the backlight's working and the device is "on", but no signals reach it. When you say "tried the integrated gpu", how did you force this? And did the external display work before these screen issues started?

An external display would completely bypass the lcd cable; data signals run from the gpu (onboard or mxm) over the pcb itself to the vga or hdmi port. That's why it makes for such a useful problem-solving tool.

Can't make out any defects in that picture, but if you're convinced it's the cable; sure, buy a new one. You'll have to remove the LCD too, of course.

PC can not post without RAM - this is normal and the same on any laptop/desktop. Try moving display forwards and backwards to see if that affects the picture. Or ideally just moving the LCD cable where it flexes near hte hinges (the place it constantly moves when you open and close the display). If this affects the picture - your cable is most likely faulty and needs replacing.

When you say "tried the integrated gpu", how did you force this?

R: Ok, i try to explain better, the FIRST time, when the diplay just made some flickering and was becoming white something like this but with the horizontal line too

    http://i59.tinypic.com/2mrd47o.jpg

i turned off the pc, after i removed the secondary graphic card (GTX 260m) and the pc booted with the integrate gpu and nothing changed.

And did the external display work before these screen issues started?

R: honestly i never used an external screen, so i dont know.

I want to replace that flex lcd cable is this correct for my screen?

Yes, after the screen death i made what did you say and the picture was affect by the forward and backward movement.
