Got this laptop almost 3 years ago now and still going strong but im leaving for the UK from the U.S very soon and I'm a little confused about the power adapter and what I need to buy if anything in order for it to work or not blow up when I plug it into a UK mains 240 when I get there. It still has the original power adapter and I saw on amazon it had this in the description: The universal 100/240 power input means you can use the AC adapter around the world with the appropriate plug adapter for whatever country you are traveling to. does anyone know what exactly that means? does that mean I need to get a universal adapter? or do I need to get a converter? or neither and just plug a UK power chord into it? because my power adapter has it so you can remove the power chord itself, so I'm thinking i might just simply be able to plug a UK power chord and it be fine, but I don't wanna blow it up lol... I did buy a All-In-One International Adapter from walmart which is THIS
any help would be appreciated.... thanks

first of all, that all in one adapter is not even close to how much power the alienware m17x will use even on idle.
second of all, being a 100-240V power adapter, that means it has electronic swtiching, it is all done internally, and you do not need to get a different power supply when changing from 100V to 240V. What you do need is a different wall socket. since you are going to the us, you need the plug that can fit into the us walls. those adapters are very cheap, and should be all you need.

the opposite, but still true... you need a UK cord or an adapter for the wall socket... cord would be better than a socket adapter, and probably cheaper

ok thanks a lot you guys, yeah im from the US going to the UK so yeah would need to get a UK cord... I didn't see any switches to switch it from 110 to 240v so hopefully its internal... thanks again guys

Perhaps even a single outlet surge protector that is UK for the wall side and US for your side? I have a single plug surge that I carry around in my bag and use when I am not at home/work.
