    This question is for a M17x R4
My wife used a Dell Studio 17, that she loved, but the motherboard died two years ago.
It had the great JBL SRS sound system with a sub woofer.
Thinking I was smart I got her a Lenovo Edge 15, with an i7-5500U with the upgraded video board, that she has never really liked very well. (That's what I get for thinking)
Our daughter is getting a new Alienware gaming computer and has offered to let my wife have her old Alienware M17xR4.
How well will it compare to her much newer Lenovo edge?
I hope it will have better sound (she has never been happy with the tinny Lenovo speakers)
She mostly uses it for internet, You tube, Netflix and listening to music.
Is there a equalizer app for this Alienware available to adjust the sound?

    Thanks in advance
    Any advice will help

The ThinkPad E-series (Edge) are entry-level business. Audio is VERY low-end on them. Hell, even the T-series don't have great speakers.. I'm 99% certain the M17x will have vastly superior audio quality.

EDIT: Won't be as good as the JBL speakers, though. Sad but true :/

Since my fisrt post I have run Cinebench 15 on both.
The alienware is MUCH better for both cpu and video FPS
I will look for the correct sound drivers for her.

    Thanks

Naturally- the i7 5500U is a low-voltage 15W dual-core. Its performance is under that of the Pentium G4560. It's meant for light productivity and long battery life, not serious performance like the HQ/MQ series CPUs (which are quad-core 45W chips)
