Hi guys, I'm absolutely struggling here.

I possess the old Alienware M17x R1 laptop, with 280m SLI and 9400 integrated cards, with 2.93 duo CPU, 4 GB Ram and Windows 7 64 bit.

I been using an very old graphics driver due to flash crashes and also unable to update the graphics card for well over a year... :(

I just followed this guide, http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/700176-m17x-r1-cant-install-new-nvidia-drivers.html , where Katalin suggested installing the latest driver by modding in, and just succuessfully completed installing the latest driver, 310.70.

However, now I can't even use my SLI Geforce 280M, yet alone a single one, can someone please help? I've tried to enable SLI (yes, done the basics like rebooting it etc), but with no luck...

When I go to dxdiag, the display is showing up as Geforce 9400 (integrated card) rather then the SLI, I tried enabling SLI, and BIOs etc, still no luck... when I play games like League of Legends etc, its extremely low fps, around 24 fps... please help someone! :(

On the Devise Manager, under display drivers, all 3 cards, 9400, 280M, 280M all showing up as 'active' or available.

    Thanks

    Gerry

completely uninstall video drivers, and install again. And disable integrated graphics in bios and you should be ready to go

Hybrid graphics is no longer supported in new drivers, so you will have to disable it in order to get SLI working.

    Best Regards

This is true, you need to disable the Hybrid and the integrated in order to get them to work correctly with the latest drivers. I hope you enjoy your lappy.

    Hello Porras and matthew,

Once again, thanks for your time on replying to this.

Another question, every time I restart my Alienware M17 R1, the integrated graphics card just automatically enable it self, I have to manually reboot it and go to bios EVERY time I restart the computer.... is there any way of saving it for good?

    Thanks

    Gerry

Gerry, make sure your system is plugged in and the blue ring around the plug is lit when turning it on. If it runs on the battery, the BIOS will enable your 9400M by default.

Here is a link to the latest official BIOS for the M17x:

258.96 are the last driver that supports M17x R1.
Anything newer will have to be modded and will only allow 9400M or 2X0M to run and you will have to disable the other one through bios.
