After some extensive time being on, I turned my laptop off to move it and when I started it back up my screen is acting very off. The screen itself is like a pulsating blood red instead of black and wherever a deep dark black is supposed to be present on the screen it's replaced with this graphical error. It's not like a color change where black is now red, it looks more problematic I guess someone would say. Any ideas on what to do? My basic computer specs are below.

    Alienware M17x R2
    Intel i7 820QM
ATI Radeon HD Mobility 5870 - Crossfire enabled
    6GB RAM

UPDATE: The problem seems to be in the monitor of the laptop itself, is there anyway to fix the monitor or am I stuck sending it in to have the monitor replaced?

I had a similar problem with my M17R2 after I got it. I had to call Support and have a Tech come out and replace it.It also could be the video card. Hook an external monitor up to the computer. If it works, its the monitor. If it dosent, its probably the video card.I'm far from an expert but that's what I did. Good luck.

has anyone of you tried yet to connect the lap to an external monitor?

bpat, before the technician come to replace your vid cards, try to make sure that actually are the vid cards the problem. Rule them out connecting an external monitor. If is still faulty then are the cards. If is not could be the screen it self and you will get your vid card changed for nothing and still with the problem there.

    just my 2 cents here
