I recently sold my old Radeon R9 M290X 4GB MXM card to some guy, however his Alienware M17x R2 wont properly work with the card, apparently it will boot fine the display works but with artefacts.

I told him to re-seat the card properly in the connection not sure if he did.
I also heard from a friend of mine with the same laptop that it could be the video cable.

According to this thread the GPU should work fine in the specific laptop:
    https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9712-m17x-r2-w-8970m-crossfirevbios-tweaking/

If I remember correctly the GPU originally came with 015.036.000.005.044618 vBIOS and I flashed it to the newer 015.032.000.003.044465 which is basically the M290X vBIOS as both cards are the same but with different vBIOS, this worked fine for me and gave me slight performance improvements and better stability.
Windows still recognised it as the HD 8970M though.

What could cause the artefacts? I will ask him to post some pictures if he can about his issue, I been searching the internet and pretty much everyone says the card should work fine in this laptop, could it be because I flashed to a newer vBIOS this happened?

I tried asking for pictures, however from the ones I seen its like a blue hue with some streaks going down on the monitor.
There still image of Windows behind all of this.

No idea what it could be though as it sounds to me more like a connection issue like the cable is not properly seated, I know its an issue on the M17x R2 from time
