Hello, my Alienware M17x R2, when is shut down for a while, with power adapter and battery inserted, loses BIOS preferences. The strange thing is that the clock doesn't reset, just preferences does.
I changed the BIOS battery but the one i got didn't have the right plug so i removed the one from the old battery I had and connected it to the new battery, so I'm not sure it's working (but why shouldn't it?).
Can the CMOS battery be the problem, even if the clock isn't lost?

Yep, sounds like CMOS battery issue. Make sure you test out any battery replacements to be sure they deliver exactly the required voltage/amps.

Thanks for your answer, the battery model is the same, CR2032, the only difference is the plug that I changed by cutting the wires.
Does Batteries with same model have same voltage and amperage? (I think so)

x3 xD If that does not help then updating the BIOS could work. But I'm 99% sure it's the CMOS battery.

Always good to test the voltage with a multi meter :)

Thanks, since my original battery is now gone, what's the right voltage?

The button cells are usually 3.3V and will operate down to about 2.7V at least.

The answer is of course normally, no.
    2032 is normally a 2032 and is referred to as a 3 V battery.
