When my Alienware was in shipping the GPU heatsink was removed because the GPU was taken out by order, however the person who packed everything forgot to secure the Heatsink properly so it bent during shipping.

So I looked around on eBay for a new GPU heatsink for my M17x R4 and I came upon two custom? heatsinks for the R3 and R4.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Heats-Fo...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/All-copper...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Now I bought both since they are similar priced as a brand new one but you get the extra heatpipes however upon testing the CPU one I noticed that my temps seem worse??
But then my maximum temps stays at 85~ ish degrees using Prime95, the old heatsink would push those temps to almost 99 degrees just like my old Clevo P150.

I am using the i7-3940XM which is not really suited for two pipe heatsinks, does anyone have any experience with these heatsinks??
Temps seem to fluctuate wildly too, could it be because its an all copper construction this happens and the heat is just spread in all direction instead of being pushes into the pipes?

NB: I am not advertising these custom heatsinks I am genuinely asking a question if I am the only one in that case mine is defective and needs to be returned.

I have the 4-pipe all copper cpu one for my AW17 R5 and found the same thing. Temperatures very eratic and overall worse than the stock heatsink. I also came to the same conclusion that maybe its due to the all copper plate which doesnt "focus" the heat into the pipes like the stock copper / alloy one does.

I did have a plan to see if I could desolder the all copper plate and switch it for the stock one to hopefully make the "ultimate" heatsink with the extra pipes and all-copper fins but havent tried yet.

I think @TheReciever also has some experience with the all copper ones? Didn't you also have lots of trouble with your cpu htting "vr thermal" limit? Was this with the stock or all-copper heatsink?

I had that issue with both heatsinks and couldn't even turbo on the original heatsink. I think it was damaged or something I bought it used.

The copper heatsink needs to be lapped in my opinion, I warped my heatsink by applying too much force

That sucks, the Original heatsinks are quite fragile nothing like the Clevo heatsinks which are solid and built like tanks, the Dell ones uses thin pipes for some reasons despite this the CPU heatsink on the Alienware cools my 3940XM way better than the Clevo one despite the Clevo being thicker, no idea why while the 3 pipe one is completely useless at this stage.

3 pipe is better but without more mass on the radiator you won't see lowered temperatures over time.

    Should reduce heat spikes though

Technically 3 pipe should be better but mine is giving me more spikes, worse lower temperature and overall I checked, it just takes longer time for it to reach max 99 degrees whereas the stock pipe will only hit 90 degrees in Prime95 in same amount of time.

Whatever it is, this 3 pipe heatsink is either shoddy design, defective or its just not making correct contact.

    Or all 3.

Without more fin density, more pipes will not do much.

I plan to piggyback the heatpipes towards the GPU heatsink in my laptop later this year and ill be adding 3x more mass to the GPU side since I dont use the DVD drive.

I spoke to the seller and possibly the CPU heatsink does not have proper contact, so I plan on grinding it flat as possible with some 1000 nits paper and see if it helps and then I will find a really thin copper ship and probably just solder it on or put liquid metal on the contact between heatsink and kryonaut between shim and CPU die to see if it improves.

I ordered a pair and didn't get a chance to check them. Unfortunate. I was expecting some really good temps. Now It needs work..Thanks for this info.

It could be the case but with mine I had screwed it up trying to force more pressure. Temps were better than stock as I couldn't run the 4930mx even at stock speeds. I think the heatsink was damaged in some way though, I bought the machine used.

Same thing with my gpu side, was able to have a nice overclock but after when I bought a 1070 and modded my heatsink for it only to realize the gpu didn't work now the gpu side isn't all that great either side I'm stuffing extra pads now to make contact.

I will be buying from him again in the future when I have the chance. Stock heatsink uses aluminum exchangers.

Also another member uses the same 4 pipe heatsink and maintained a 4.3Ghz daily overclock.

Strange, mine is brand new and came properly packaged.
I ordered sand paper 1000 for metal but yet to recieve it .
I noticed my 3 pipe heatsink had left scratches on the die surface of my CPU as if the metal had eroded and got stuck on the copper surface, very strange indeed I added enough paste too, no idea why this happened

Mine was too, it was user error that messed up the heatsink, not a fabrication issue.

Update - The heatsinks, both are not even fitting, the coverage is good for the CPU one but the HS won't fit. The frame is too large or the arms, same with GPU, but only one arm is somehow having more length causing not to fit. Bummer !!

Will PM the seller and let you guys know.

That is a shame, I sanded the contact area on both my CPU and GPU heatsink and the CPU heatsink does not fluctuate so much anymore but its still inferior to the Dell one the GPU heatsink seems to work just fine

My load temps on my 780m before the GPU died was more or less 56c, this was also with the 11ish CFM fan (Cant remember if its 11.4 or 11.2)

My m6100 will be here tomorrow and hopefully the heatsink will play nice with it.

I need to replace the CPU heatsink still.

Its odd that you say the Dell one is better, my 4930mx was overheating at stock with it.

I sanded both of them on the contact surface, seems like they apply some nasty paint on it that corrodes the chip surface area.
This improved the CPU heatsink quite a bit but still worse than my Dell. Could be manufacturing defect
