    Different chipset for the CPU family.

    You can swap the whole MB though.

    You will need that line of code for the inf, like in my 770m guide..maybe?

    I was thinking, when i look on HWINFO64 on my m17x r3 it says that my bios is UEFI capable, so isn't i "just" a modded bios from the R4 you need to get the 970m to work. Im no expert, but isnt it a software issue more than a hardware issue?

    Maybe some of the experts in modded bios versions could make a build that makes the 970m work.

    I installed a clevo gtx 970m on m17x r3 3d , what it did was it turns on and gets stuck on a blinker (underscore) mark on top, then nothing after that.

    Yes, it doesn't work in the R3... You need a R4 lol..

    Lol worth a try though!!!
    If r3 bios had uefi it would have worked , it behaved 100% similar to my r4 with legacy boot enabled , I had to disable it and enable uefi to get the gtx 970m work on my r4.
