    Hi guys,

First time posting although the community here has been very helpful in my mod decisions so far.

I haven't seen any posts or attempts regarding this so far so I thought I'd register and just ask the questions.

    I've ordered a 1080p aliewnare m17x r3 matte screen from https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Dell/ALIENWARE~M17X~R3/
and I've been looking at some youtube videos on how to replace the panel. While it looks pretty straight forward, I'm worried that the plexiglass cover is going to make my new screen look glossy regardless of a matte panel. Will this be the case?

I've also looked into some methods of trying to cut the see through part out of the plexiglass panel and maybe precision laser cutting could do it but I'm not sure.

Please help. I seek your collective wisdom.

Update: Been doing some further searching and it looks like the plexiglass cover can be cut so that only the frame around the screen remains.

I believe the stock LED panel is Matte anyway so the additional screen I've ordered might just be money out the window.

In a couple weeks time when my 8970m and new panel arrive I'll take some pictures and let you all know how it goes.

You really want to go through with that? The easiest and cheapest option is to get the antireflective film. I've used one on my M11x r3 and it worked great.

I bought this for my m17x r3 when i first got it and it works a treat. It's not fully matte (it doesn't claim to be) but it is indeed a vast improvement on the default glossy screen for matte aficionados such as myself.

    Realised I never updated.

Not all endings are happy. Ended up breaking the corner of the plexiglass when taking it off. Raged, put it back on and bought the AG2 cover

We're sorry to hear about that. Is it working better now at least?

The Plexiglass is a crude solution to the glare issues on the screen but it's definitely an improvement.

Also I'd very much recommend you have a second person with you while applying the cover
