    Hi gamers,

Can anyone tell me if the new Alienware M17x R3 have Wireless Display technology? Some the Dell representatives told me yes and no. Also told me that I need to upgrade the video card to 1.5GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M for wireless display. I like the 1GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 6870M video card that comes standard on M17 and I really do not want to spend more for the GTX 460M. I thought the wirless display capabilities is related to the processor and the wiressless card.

    Thanks

Intel Widi works only if the integrated GPU is active (plus a compatible core i7 2nd generation cpu, an intel compatible wireless card and a compatible tv set). Haven't read through threads but if you figure out with what card of the two (460m or 6970) the intel GPU is active and you want WiDi , you need to chose that card. :)

That's not true...There are videos on Youtube with WiDi being used in 3D mode on a 460M :)

I would like to believe this, ATM it's a wait and see thing, since no one is able to confirm it at the moment. I have had different Dell reps tell me that the wireless broadcast thing will work with the 3d version of hr r3.

The videos online that I have seen don't show 3d being used or broadcast, just a pair of glasses attached. Not hard to stick some glasses in a USB. I have seen two videos of the actual broadcast feature. One I know for sure was not the 3d version and was using the vizio brick. ( ala the review around here somewhere )

I am waiting to get my hands on the machine to see if because they bypassed the igp that people who got the 3d lose out on many of the robust features built into the igp.

Right now solid information is hard to come by, especially when it comes to the wifi broadcast. Early on much of the debate about how the r3 would stream content was discussed and it seemed they weren't going to use the widi system but depend on sibeam. If that information still holds true, who knows.

I expect many more answers coming down the line as people get their hands on the machine, some even open theirs up completely the first few days they have it, and I would believe they might be able to provide some clues.
