Hmm... I was thinking of opening it up again, (dust cleaning), and taking look at the light wires... BUT~!!! I dont want to kill any of the others, and I am afraid of killing all/some of the other lights if I force off (disconnect) the light wires to the touch pad... any thoughts?

Edit ~ I heard when reading the forums that someone burnt out the light on the touch pad... so I dont think disconnecting the light wires will kill the other lights, BUT~! may screw with the Alienware lighting app :(

easiest and (by my knowlegde) only way to "kill" the touchpad-light but keep it functional is to manually edit the alienfx theme-file.

you have to open this file with notepad and find the entry which defines the colour for that zone (i think its zone 9...but not sure right know).

there you type in the desired colour (for black = off, i think its #FF000000 ), save and load via alienfx editor.

bit of a hassle but it works.

btw i have no idea why alienware wouldnt allow to change the colour of the touchpad, mediakeys and status-leds to black...its kinda stupid in my opinion.

I found an easier way just now, by chance..

Right-click the AlienFX tray icon, choose Quick Change, choose black, then go into the editor, save as a new theme and edit the zones you want to have colour from there.
