Hello,
I have been reading several posts in the Alienware and Accessories forums about headphones and external sound cards for laptops and haven't seen specific threads on the Astro A50 wireless headphones and the Alienware M17x R4.
I'm interested in getting some feedback on a few things if someone has this setup:
- How are you connecting the A50 to the M17x?
- Are you using an external sound card like the Xonar U3 for Dolby Digital Live support?
- What is your impression of the sound quality - 7.1 for games, mic output, stereo sound ?
What I have read is since the IDT card does not support Dolby Digital Live I need an external decoder for this and it seems the U3 is one of the better ones for the money. Also read about the Soundblaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro USB which is a bit more expensive but seems to have a wider range of good vs bad experiences.
I want a wireless headset as I've been gaming on the LCD in a little home theatre room we have setup. I'm currently running my Corsair headphones to my seated position but it's only a matter of time before the cable gets pinched. My friend has the A50 and I've been quite impressed on how clear he sounds in BF3, etc. A50 also interestes me as you can use it with PS3/Xbox 360.
Regards,
Craig
