    Hi guys,

I have recently noticed a problem with my audio on my Alienware M17x R4, its on windows 7 64-bit. I haven't updated any drivers for a while, and can think of no change to let this problem happen. Last week i tried to use my laptop to play a movie on my TV but it would not play the audio thought the TV. Also my headphones are not working when I plug them in, the sound blaster panel comes up to let you know they are plugged in but no audio comes through them.

come up, but it does not play the sound through them.

I can not set the Digital output on the Playback devices from the volume mixer to default device.

try reinstalling your audio drivers. that should probably fix the problem.

Yeah, give that a try. The digital audio device is for sp/dif output to a compatible device over a fibre connection. You will see that one jack is marked sp/dif. The laptop should have come with a small adaptor that plugs into the jack and gives you a 'standard' sp/dif connection. I can select it though

I know that video drivers mess with the audio as well. If I plug in my TV I see the device listed in the video driver control panel under 'digital audio' (confusing description!). I've also seen people having audio problems with the latest video drivers. What make of video card do you have?

I have the AMD 7970M, it has a audio driver listed in the device manager alright. imgur: the simple image sharer
I did a complete uninstall of Sound blaster and its driver and reinstalled the driver from Alienwares website the CT9570 driver, and there was no audio at all. I then uninstalled them and tried this one "M17xR4 _M18xR2_Sound_Blaster_Recon3Di_Drivers_Control_Panel_v6.0.100.2040" from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...questions-here-m18x-r2-m17x-r4-audio-fix.html

    But no luck either.

I have the lastest available BIOS the A12. I have tried reinstalling the drivers again but no avail, every time I try one of the newer drivers I have to a system restore to get the laptops speakers working. Could a windows update have caused this or something like it?
