Can anyone please help me with this issue? Please see the attached screenshot. Whenever I try to update my BIOS, I get this error and I don't know how to resolve it.

    Thanks Anticipation.

Are you running a modded BIOS?

I am not sure brother if it is modded. I bought this laptop 2 days ago actually. Can you please guide me how to check it? I''ll be grateful to you.

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you are running a modded BIOS. It says "X17" instead of "A#" like the update says. This may mean that it's not recognizing it.

I've never reverted a system BIOS before, I don't even think it's possible. You may need to try older versions (e.g. A09) and see what it says.

I have tried the older versions as well but no luck. My volume rocker buttons(Volume Low, Volume High and Mute) aren't working as well. Do you think this could be the issue of BIOS?

Is this a used system you just bought from someone?

It would seem like the person who owned it before you flashed some modded BIOS and realized that was a big mistake, and decided to sell it.

I don't know how to help you. Never done this. Hopefully someone else can.

If I am not mistaken, an Alienware or Dell BIOS firmware with an "X" version is likely a pre-production firmware and you may have difficulty flashing an "A" BIOS version. I recommend contacting Alienware Support aboout this. If it was a pre-release review machine from back in the days before the M17xR4 was released to the public, it may have been sold through the Dell Outlet, it never should have been sold or released to the public without a production BIOS. I do not recommend attempting to force the flash because you may brick the machine.

If Alienware Support will not help you with this issue, you may be able to do a blind flash. I would avoid doing that except as a last resort. If the machine is working fine, it would be safer to leave it alone. There is a possibility doing a blind flash could brick it... unpredictable with an "X" version BIOS.
