    Hi,

I am newbie here, this might come across as a really basic question. But i just wanted to get expert opinions from people here. I tried looking for something similar to my question on the forum but i did not find one so i decided to post and ask.

I am basically looking to get a M17x R4 or the may be even the R5 if it fits my budget.

I did my bit of the research for a while, i have been reading that most of the people order for their laptops from Dell, and most often then not its delayed during production.

I was wondering if it is worthwhile to get one from ebay, important to point out i will only buy one from a Top rated seller, where i can get a full year of warranty.

The advantages i see is :

    1. i do not have to pay sales tax.
    2. i still get a better rate than what Dell offers me for the same configuration on their site.
    3. it ships faster, and if i shell out 30-60$ i get next day shipping.

Just wanted to know what you people think about this.

    Thank you.

Problem I see with eBay and reseller systems is, that they buy lowest spec laptops and upgrade then with aftermarket parts, now dell will honour warranty on the basic systems but not on those parts, same with extended warranty. If the system was ordered with hdd and reseller sold it to you with ssd, then dell will refuse to diagnose till you put original hdd back in, which you won't have.

If reseller upgrades gpu and system came with base gpu, then dell can refuse to honour warranty on both gpu and motherboard.

In my personal opinion, better to buy from dell directly, just search for coupons to prop up and then haggle further over the phone.

Have you tried calling Dell? Often you can get better deals than eBay AND free NBD delivery. Especially if you make sure they know that you are aware of the soon to be released models.

Thank you for pointing that out, i was not aware of this fact. Helps me sort out my options better.

I did go on a online chat with them, but i did not succeed. I may have to pick up haggling tips from the forum.

I highly suggest calling. More wiggle room. The chat reps are more often very straightforward, and will give you "by the book" answers. Phone reps will often speak to their managers and get you some kind of discount.

    Good luck!

All great suggestions, vs3074 point is completely right, it's better to go to the website and get it straight from DELL for warranty purposes, and it is also better to call in to get a good deal.

You can also try Dell outlet. The machines in outlet are in stock. So if you see one you like, place order quick to secure, it goes out very fast.

Another option would be wait until July to order. July is fiscal quarter end of Dell. Their sales will be more willing to provide discount for revenue.
