The 680M has not been released to the public yet.

Nobody will know anything about the card until it gets released.

I don't know why we have to have so many of these threads popping up. Just look at the other 680M threads. They all talk about the same thing, and all have the same answers (which is: Nobody knows until it gets released).

Once again, it has not been released yet. All that article says is that the M17x/M18x will be getting the 680M. The keyword there: will.

So I guess you are wrong...

Side note: We should be seeing more news about it by the end of the month. Hopefully it'll stay on track and gets released in time. Can't wait to see some real benchmarks on this card. Although I probably wont get it as I'm waiting on my 7970M still. Hopefully my guy at Dell gets back to me asap when he gets back from vacation....

Maybe you didn't read the entire article. Here is a little tid bit for you to read over:

We are particularly proud to be a launch partner with NVIDIA for the GTX 680M. The Alienware M17x will be available with the GeForce GTX 680M 2GB DDR5 GPU along with the option for the NVIDIA 3D Vision technology. The Alienware M18x will also be available with the GeForce GTX 680M GPU in single or dual-card SLI configurations before the end of the month.

Take into account what is in bold.

Yes, it is the 7th of June, but we still have 23 days left. Before the end of the month could mean today, tomorrow, or even the 29th.

Believe what you want, but it's been stated in the past that tech support doesn't always know what they are talking about. And why would the article you posted state that the card is going to be released for the M17X and M18X?

Think about it. The 7970M works fine in the R3/R4. The 680M is similar technology. Why would it fry the R4?

Nvidia's trying to destroy our belongings for no reason. That's my 2-cents anyway. I'll stick with it.

On a serious note, I wouldn't believe Dell over the phone if they told me someone was robbing me WHILE I was witnessing the robbery. IMO.

Sigh, why would a tech tell someone that a vid card will fry other components. it's just a vid card. It won't fry anything as long as it isn't defective. i doubt 680m's will explode

this is why I bought the 7970m, because I like to cook in my dorm's kitchen only, and I'm not allowed to have a fire extinguisher anyway :p

Jokes aside, tech is crazy. I had a guy telling me on chat that the 3820 is an amazing upgrade on the R4 and totally worth the premium, when three others told me to save $$ and get the 3610qm, and upgrade the warranty/graphics card/wireless card instead... there's always that one odd nut and looks like you just bumped into one :D The 680m will absolutely work in the R4 its just a matter of when it will be available
