I haven't found a solution for this ever since I got my Alienware.

I've tried turning on the palm detection to the max setting (in the red zone) but it doesn't help.

I've also tried turning down the sensitivity lower, but you can only go so low.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

I have scrolling turned off in the synaptics panel.

I use two finger scrolling (mac style) i dont like the right edge being the scroll tbh.

Yep, that's exactly how I have mine setup too. Scrolling is off and two finger scrolling is on. That's the problem, the touchpad thinks each of my palms is a finger and scrolls when I type. :/

I had the same issue with my R3, got so tired of dealing with it that I now just leave the touchpad off and use a wireless mouse.

You could try the new drivers? I just updated to the ones direct from synaptics website since there are no dell ones, except the ones windows installs itself.

I have mine set up to disable the trackpad when an external mouse is connected. But no I haven't encountered that problem even with the trackpad enabled :S

I second this. It gets to be too much of a hassle. I just disable the touchpad in the device manager and use my wireless mouse. The Alienware touchpad is too finicky anyway. My cousin's Macbook has the touchpad in the same place and I don't have any unwanted scrolling when I'm typing on her notebook. I think it's just the design of our touchpads.

This is a problem us two finger typers don't have. My hands sort of cup around the touchpad and I "hunt and peck" with my first fingers :)

I always get unwanted cursor movement instead of scrolling. In many games I just disable it using Fn + F12.

The L702x I had before my M17x had no such problems either.

Funny because all the touchpads are made by Synaptec, which is still much better than Alps touchpads.

BTW, what causes it for me is the base of my thumbs hits the top corner regions of the touchpad, making the touchpad think I have two fingers on there trying to do scrolling.

A sure fire way to prevent this is to put a light sensor under the Windows Key and if the light intensity drops (because the user's left palm is in a typing position) then reduce the sensitivity of the top corner regions of the touch pad to zero.

Hmm, but that might not work at night?

Actually, the simplest solution is for Dell to use the same specs as the touchpad in their L702x.

Yeah, my other cousin has an L502x and she has no problems with inadvertent scrolling while typing. I really do think it's our Alienware's and how them's touchpads interface with the palmrest.
