So, I bought my Alienware m17x a few months ago, but found a need to reformat it in the time since. Now, I am attempting to upgrade my WoW account to a Lich King account, but I do not have the cd keys. Anyone have any idea where I might find this information among the documentation that came with the m17x?

    Many thanks.

the preinstall is if you've already purchased the necessary keys and have a battle.net login. It is *not* a free copy of WOTLK. If you've already registered your keys they are attached to your battle-net account so all you need to do is install it and login. If you did not previously puchase WOTLK you need to do so seperatly.

The only time you need keys is when you get hacked and it speeds up recovery. As long as your actual Battle.Net account has both the original World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade activated then just upgrade your account with the Wrath of the Lich King key and install the updates.

Then if you ever need to reinstall all you need is the Wrath DVD and you're all set. And if you haven't done so already, get an Authenticator!

he doesn't have WOTLK, he assumes that since it was preinstalled on the computer that they gave him a copy of WOTLK with cd-keys. This is not the case. He needs to go buy WOTLK

Correct as long as he has Burning Crusade on his account and isn't playing as a trial. He can either buy the DVD or log into Battle.Net and buy it online.
