Dell just replaced my MB and fans due to overheating and constant reboots. M17x worked fine for months but developed this problem two months ago. With the new board and fans the same old problem continues.
The problem persists through various drivers. I have tried several, and currently use 266.58.
I pulled the 260M, removed old thermal paste and cleaned/purified it, reinstalled heat sink with Arctic Silver, etc. On start up I ran GPU-Z in log mode. The 260M GPU temperature climbed from cold to 105C in 8 minutes at 2% GPU load, with fans running at full speed and with M17x on my Thermaltake Massive 23 cooler.
This isn't a dust, cleanliness or a fan issue. The thermal paste is new.
Any ideas as to why my 260M overheats at no load?

Only thing I can think of is some sort of system (probably mobo) error or the heatsink is making poor contact with the GPU die.

It is worth to double check your repaste work.

Take your time and remove the card, remove the heathsink and check that the core has left an even mark on the heatsink (even contact)

Also (sounds silly) but just double check to make sure you fan is connected (and running) as well.

The onsite techs are notorious for forgetting to plug them back in.

if all else fails, pour water on it if it starts to heat up too much.

or call tech support and ask to replace it.

OK. Left side video fan was plugged in but intermittent. Because the new CPU cooling fan the tech put in is so loud when temps rise, I couldn't hear that video fan was cutting in and out. I ordered new F603N this morning. Thanks for the input.
