Hi, I've been getting only 50-60% gpu usage and between 30-40 fps when playing Gta 4 at max settings - apart from draw + detail distance, with v-sync off.

When playing bf3 i get near full gpu usage all the time.

My cpu is the base 3610qm, it's not a cpu bottleneck as far as i'm aware. Sometimes every 5 minutes, for a few seconds the usage goes to 90% and I start to get 95 fps.

My power plan is the high performance one, gpu drivers are the latest....
How can i get my 7970m to perform properly?

I got the average scores in 3d mark 11 too.

    Thanks

Forgot to add, I turn Enduro off..... So it just runs on the discrete graphics.

I haven't fixed it. Problem is still there, and I'm only running on discrete graphics. Enduro is turned off....

I get around 35/40 fps with 50/60% usage. Then when it goes to 90+ stable - typically when near water, or inside, I see fps of more than 100...... And this is with everything maxed apart from draw detail + view distance. Really hope that the new drivers fix this issue, since I play GTA IV the most, and GTA V might come even later than March :(

Strange. No reason why the GPU shouldn't be fully utilized with Enduro off. Have you tried a clean install?

Yes, although I think It's an issue with gta 4 and the 7970m. The drivers for the 7970m are pretty poor and something needs to be done about it....

Guess we just have to wait for better driver support then.. :/ GTA 4 is a very poorly optimized game as it is.

True that. Seriously hope that GTA V's a well optimized game and not just some lousy console port. GTA is seriously my favorite game, can't wait for GTA V :)

GTA IV doesn't know how to use more resources. People always said "use a quad core!" Well guess what, now we are using quad cores, and the game still doesn't run well. All the game wants is a 7GHz Quad CPU and GDDR8 RAM and VRAM to run at 60FPS stable.

It isn't using more GPU because it is handicapped from the get go. It can't even max out a SINGLE CPU thread on the 3610, let alone use a quad core properly. This leads to a totally different approach as to understanding how the game is really functioning and using resources.

There may be another factor, though. It is known that the Enduro bug is an imbalance between ingoing and outgoing data between the CPU, 7970m and iGPU, leading to huge performance loss in and underutilization in many games. Despite the fact that you guys are in enduro OFF mode, the CPU to 7970m side MAY still be affected by the bug, because that side doesn't change when switching between fixed and enduro. In other words, the way the 7970m is receiving data from the CPU may still be negatively affected even in fixed mode, leading to GPU performance issues. When the October driver comes along, this should all be fixed.

Disable all mods as they can be causing your optimization issues then run the game (is This the steam game?), if the issue persist run the integrity check (for steam users). If it is one of the mods then use process of elimination, if not then you can delete .ini files and reaquire them (advanced users only), or just simply make a copy of your saved game and do a fresh install.

Tried that, and It's not bought off steam, it's the disk version. I'm just guessing it's the drivers....
