But there is no sound coming through! I looked at the sound settings and I cant find anything that has the sound for the HDMI Input only the HDMI output, can anybody help?

Have you tried a different HDMI cords? some of the original cords might not play nice with the newer spec HDMI 1.3 used on the laptop.

Have you uninstalled the IDT driver as a work around for the optical out issue?

I had done exactly that and lost hdmi in as a sound device. As soon as I re-installed the IDT driver it reappeared.

In my device manager it comes up as IDT High Definition Audio CODEC,

If that doesn't appear on yours then it might just need installed?

This is where I got the driver from:- Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United Kingdom]

After installing it, hdmi in appeared as an option in audio devices in control panel.

    Hope that helps

at control panel, sound manager, you need to make the HDMI input as a "default". No need to remove your IDT sound........

Like B4n6k3 says, I ran into this with my old G73JH too. It must be a windows 7 thing. To be specific, after you plug in to the HDMI device, Right click on the Windows 7 Speaker icon in your system tray on the right side of the task bar, select Playback devices. There should be an HDMI device in the list. Right click on it and choose "Set as default device". This should make the sound come out of your HDMI cable instead of the laptop speakers. You will want to change that back to Speakers/Headphones when you are done or else you won't get sound out of the laptop speakers.

    Open your IDT control panel:

On the main page, there should be a slider for HDMI In.
