So I have and Alienware m17xR3 with a gtx 580, 16gb ram and an i72820qm, I've managed to up teh clock speed of the GPU fine using msi afterburner, but I am having issues OCing the cpu much. Is there any guides or anyone that could help me at all?

You can't overclock the 2820QM; the multipliers are locked at the factory. You can improve performance marginally by increasing the bclk speed in the BIOS, but at the risk of introducing instability to the system. I suspect that you'll be impressed by the power of the stock 2820.

hmm yeah I thought as much but thought I'd ask anyway, any ideas on how far i can increase it?
+1 rep for the quick response as well -

Varies enormously. Highest I've seen is about 107-108, most start getting squirrelly around 103-104, some don't like any increase at all.
Very nice system. Congratulations. -
one other question if you know, would messing with the Override Tubro Settings improve my performance at all?
-
I would recommend you just get a thing called "Throttlestop."
I set the Clock and Chip mod to 100% and Set Multiplier to Turbo.
The risk in oc-ing the 2820 and the marginal performance improvement is too huge to bother. Besides, as The_Revelator said, its already locked in the factory.
The 2820's default performance is already very good. There's no need to overclock it. -

The Turbo settings are already at the maximum allowable, so increases in the BIOS are ignored.

Throttlestop does nothing for sandy bridge unless you want to clock down. Everything you set in throttlestop is already set in the BIOS and is pointless.
