Hello guys I just came here to ask how do I overclock my CPU through the BIOS AO8?

when i start with system boot and then I got to the BIOS, Go Advanced menu I dont get the overclock option

Instead I get the Turbo boost (which is enabled) and I also tried going on preformance options and I DID find the option for overclocking CPU (it was disabled) and for some reason i CANT enable it

I can increase the voltage to my RAM though and I did over clock my GPUs, its only I wanna try doing it for my CPU scince it isnt my strongpoint of my laptop

    (I7 Q840 1.87GHZ),

EDIT: When I say I cant enable it i mean I cant even touch the line with the option, my Down arrow just dosent let me reach it

lol I think I wanna upload a video to explain

or you can use setfsb for setting clock,

I could set my old 720qm from 1.6 to 1.82 with original voltage.

you can use google to find the guide how to OC 72(4)0/82(4)0 using setfsb.

    good luck :)

You are most welcome Ahmed! :D

Honestly if you want to have a great CPU that you can OC through any BIOS. I would recommend the 920/940XM. The 940XM is currently the best CPU that you can install in to the R2, but the difference in price and performance is not justified between the 920/940. If you would like to OC you can install the modded A10 BIOS and/or use setFSB(As DJHuydx suggested)to OC the 840QM, I use the modded A10 and SetFSB to OC my 720, but I am planning on purchasing a 920XM soon as I would still like to go higher than I can currently. The OC on my 720 produces great results in games, but the 920XM is capable of going to 3.4-3.6 GHZ which is a lot higher than you would be able to achieve on the 840. I was looking at an XM CPU through a member here his name is Debaucher or there is EBAY. Either way with an XM your 5870's will even perform better as they are more CPU dependent than say NVIDIA. Good luck and I am glad I could help.

Here is a link to OC using SetFSB, but a new version of the modded A10 BIOS is coming out around September which will allow you to OC upto 40% and then SetFSB will be unnecessary.

Alright i downloaded the BIOS and awsome I can now overclock (I THINK) now instead of the overclock thing bieng disabled I can enable it to 5% IS that baisically overclocking???

PS. I own the SLI 285Ms hehe, I am thinkin of going ATI tho cause this is the only way I can get the DirectX11 to work on my R2

Yes the 5% is the max OC on this version new version should allow up to 40%, Also you can put 6970's into the R2 now. Here is that thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...6970m-your-m17x-r2-single-gpu-crossfirex.html

I forgot that you had Nvidia Cards. lol Update your signature in the Control panel with your system Specs. That will save you a lot of time writing your system specs and me guessing the wrong cards. :D

EDIT: you can also use CPU-z to see the difference in speed.

    yes it is :)

5% means that your fsb will be 140Mhz instead of 133Mhz. Your cpu final clock is given by FSBxMultiplier. Let say that before you had 133x14=1866Mhz (no turbo), now you will have 140x14=1960Mhz. With turbo will be 140x15=2100 on quad

BTW when I checked my system speccs again it is still I7 1.87GHz, there is no increase, does that mean it didnt overclock properly or what?

Hey guys (esspecially Mkelliny) I got 3 new questions I got to ask for you:

Can you link me a video on how to install a new GPU/CPU with using the thermal paste stuff and everything?

How come I need to power discharge my M17x soo much? (because its the only way I can get rid of the not chargning bugg? How do i keep it permnanttly fixed? I had to do it a couple of times now)

is 15200 3D mark 06 score good? I mean I see people with R2s who get 18000 or even 23000 lol XD I hope it will change with the upcoming upgrades,

    Thanks alot

Just wondering, were you able to increase the voltage of cpu through bios for the 720qm??? or are you stuck with the default voltage??

    is 720qm unstable over 1.82??

    Thanks

yeah with original voltage, over 1,82 Ghz is bsod in my case, i remmember that there are options to increase its voltage in bios but i havent tried it yet :)
