Alienware R4 17's i7 6700HQ Processor and Upgrading?

Hey all, I've recently gotten this laptop and it's been an absolute beast (GTX 1070). I'm just curious: am I getting the maximum performance with this processor? I've been playing Titanfall 2, Overwatch, Witcher 3, Skyrim (modded), Star Citizen, Squad, Battlefield 1, etc. Mostly been playing at 1440p.

The games that actually have a drastic lower FPS reading are Star Citizen and Squad, both games in Alpha, and not optimized. I was talking to some other players with stronger CPU's, and they seem to be getting much better FPS. The rest have fine FPS, but I am just curious if my CPU is dropping any extra frames I can get back.

BUT: These games are in alpha stage, so do I have nothing to worry about once they come out properly? Mostly, I'm just wondering if the games that are out are having any drops from the CPU being bottlenecked, and if yes, what the best course of action would be.

If it is, is there a way to upgrade to something better, and is it worth it? Thank you very much.

 

Probably - it's a 3.1GHz quad-core. The 1070 gets bottlenecked even by i5 6600Ks at 4.4GHz so yes, in some games you are certain to see bottlenecks.

No, you cannot upgrade that CPU. It's soldered to the motherboard

 

At 1440p you are much more likely to reach a gpu bottleneck. A good way to tell is to see if you are thermal throttling or anything like that. What systems are you comparing your system to? If they are alienware 17r4s then you may have an issue but if it is a desktop then your 1070 will not necessarily perform on par. A 1070 mobile is on average 10% slower stock but it gets worse as thermals and power limitations come into play. I have a 1070 and my average clocks on a +150 overclock are 1570 to 1640. My temps never get high but the amount of power my laptop is able to provide it limits its ability. some desktop 1070s are capable of 2000 or better sustained clocks on the core. I have a 4930mx at 4.3ghz and although it is older than your cpu it performs better but not by much. Since your cpu has 4 cores and hyperthreading it is basically on par with mine and I am not having a cpu bottleneck even at 1080p. I have a power problem since my components are hungry.
