Hi, guys, some of you already knew about this and how I missed the old green color of the legacy Alienware and i'm sure i'm not the only one ;).
A few months ago i decided to turn my M17x the same color and finally here's the result.

It took me a while due to the lack of free time between work, family and a small hand accident

I hope you enjoy and i'm waiting for your opinions.

I also have a custom cut vinyl with the nVIDIA logo for the lid, i didn't put it on as i like it this way.
Next to it is a Razer Deathadder.

    Cheers

This thread does nothing except make me even more sad that Alienware dropped the silver option... it looks fantastic.

Great job on the paint. Not something I would have done, but a very high quality job none-the-less.

Katalin, that definately looks awesome. Bet in public it would get tons of attention.

What type of paint did you use and what kind of prep work did you put into it? I've been thinking about doing something similiar for months now.

I've been thinking of doing a Metallic Gun Metal Gray, particularly a BMW color. I had a motorcycle painted in the BMW metallic gun metal gray and it looked awesome. In my opinion prep work is where the job is really at. If you spend a ton of time doing the prep, then the paint will look good. It's only as good as the prep work. I need to find a lid and base before I do it. That way I can always revert the system back to stock.

Did you order the lid and base as spares before the project? If so where? I may have something book marked that I came across long ago, but not sure If I still have it. Re-imaged my system so many times since then.

Yes, it does but that's not the reason i did it :D

That's correct, preparation is where the secret to success lies. I basically took it apart to the last screw, that includes the magnesium part(where you put your battery and HDDs) from the aluminium base to end up with a clean job. That goes for the nets that you see in front, back and under the fans and also the plastic that remains on the screen lid.

Don't worry about the lights and the nets in front, once the light is on you won't notice the color but it looks nicer than plain black when your laptop is off, matches the whole thing ;)

If you want to DIY i can help you with whatever i can, DR.
These were my original silver lids, my R2 is also silver but a lot of people have them :p

The color is indeed the Kawasaki green, it was hard to find it.

Okay, I'm not going to lie. That is the most awesome painting job I've seen so far. REP added. Just one question for you; you haven't showed the keyboard and palmrest, but I'm into this, and wonder, have you also painted the Touchpad? Any ideas how it would turn out?

    Hey, thanks, tunay!
You're right, I'll take a few shots with it open before it goes away :(
No, I didn't change the touchpad color or anything but the lids, I actually like its texture the way it is. Painting it would've changed that plus the fact that the paint would've worned out due to friction with hands.

Ok, I can't even tell you how much I want to do this. I dream about this kind of thing! Spare time is something I have plenty of! (i'm only 13 after all). Do you think you could PM me some simple instructions on how to do this. I think that the way you do this is something like this.

    1- disassemble the m15x
    2- sand down the m15x
    3- apply primer
    4- apply paint
    5- let it dry
    6- reassemble
    7- ENJOY

Also do you think this is possible to do with my razer mamba? Or even better, my logitech g930!

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

he paint it himself, wow, that was pretty!, but what about paint the R3? :D
i mean.. the R3 seems likely better unmodded.. the only thing i know for m17X R3 is just the Leather cover >> Alienware M17X R3 Leather protector
