I have been using my Alienware TactX optical gaming mouse since October 2010 on an Alienware mousepad which was came as a free gift when I first bought my M17x.

It has come to a point where it is unable to read or detect the surface whenever i move around the mouse. I have resorted to moving it around my wooden table but the detection is also deteriorating. I'm now using a transparent plastic file/folder as a makeshift mousepad and it's working great except it moves along whenever I move the mouse.

Is there a way I can fix the Alienware mousepad problem to enable the TactX to detect it properly again? Or must I resort to buying a new mousepad?

On the side I am also a heavy gamer which is why I suspect heavy use may have worn out the mousepad or something...
I'm also planning to buy a gaming headset and my eye is currently on the Alienware TactX headset since I get a nice feeling of having a complete set of alienware goodies - m17x, tactx mouse and tactx headset. What do you guys think?

I have had a similar problem, but with my Logitech mouse. I have the same mouse pad that you're referring to. Eventually the pad starts to look a bit white-ish and faded. My mouse tracks fine on everything else. Don't know what it is with these Alienware mouse pads. Does your mouse track normally everywhere else?

Exactly! It looks white-ish and faded now. Don't know what kind of material they use. I won't say it normally track everywhere. For example it won't track paper and I tried it on the wooden table which I'm currently placing my laptop on - which is kind of worn so at one point it tracked the surface fine but eventually it wore off as well. I've now been using a plastic transparent file as a makeshift pad and it detects as if it were a brand new mousepad. Just tried a large paperback book cover as well and it tracks the same too.

What did you do to solve your problem?
