    Hi, new user here.

My charger decided to kick the bucket several weeks ago so I ordered an replacement charger. The charger works fine, giving the computer power, but the computer doesn't love it back. A message from Alienware OSD pops up saying that the charger is unsupported so it continues to live on battery power. This is where it get interesting. The power icon says that I have so much % of power left, but never drops because the computer gets its power. While this alone isn't the problem. The problem is that Alienware computers cuts of working power when it runs on battery, making games laggy. It works if I turn on the computer and leave it alone, but if the cord slips out or I decide to change place, the computer is permanently laggy with games until I restart again. I would love it if there where a good solution for this problem. I'm using a M17x r2.

Did you buy a cheap replacement or an OEM power brick? Your solution is to buy a proper power brick. The cheap ones do not have the required eprom code to notifiy the computer that it is a proper power brick. This is done to prevent another cheap brick from frying the mobo. It's a safety feature.

Sorry to say, but I believe that is the wrong adaptor. M17x R2 uses either a 150W or a 240W. That is a replacement for something line an inspiron or other dell laptop. They through alienware in the title to get more money from unsuspecting individuals. If you can I would try and return it. :(

I always used a 240W since I ran dual cards, and an XM CPU. If your system has dual cards, you'll need the 240W adaptor.

They state this in thier ebay listing
How ever you can state that it si wrongly advertised since the Alienware M17x R2 uses a 150W or 240W, and they may take it back, but I think your stuck with it since the also say

aw crud. They even lied personally because I asked them if the charger fits my computer. They have offered to make a return after I asked about the problems I have though. Too bad shipping costs is very high in my country.

My Alienware is about 3 years old and uses a single Mobility Radeon HD 4870 card. I've noticed that not many have this one.

I think I will just keep my charger for now and try to get the old one repaired by a friend. I think the only problem with is a damaged, bent wire.

You could potentially take the new one apart, salvage the cable and put it in your old adapter.

Technically the charger will fit the plug, but yea they got away on a technicality. Best bet is to try and repair the broke PSU locally, or just try and check the marketplace and put a WTB add for an M17x R2 PSU. Somone may pop up locally with one, or willing to ship at a decent rate. Sorry bout your luck but hope it all works out.
