I have an R4 and would like to upgrade. I know I can just do the Windows Upgrade but I like the Alienware customization.

When I was looking into it yesterday the second choice for the m17x has a "add windows 8" button, click that, then hit customize.

I think the original poster meant the alienware theme such as the alienware login window and desktop which has the alienware branding on it? I guess they are lost when upgrading to windows 8.

Windows 8 makes it easier to change your logon image. Just follow these steps:

    • Press Win button+C (or move the mouse cursor to the upper or lower right corner of the screen) to see the Charms bar.
    • Choose Settings > Change PC Settings
    • Choose Personalise from the left list
    • On the right side you can click Browse to choose your new logon image
    • Navigate to your image and click Choose picture (right lower corner)

You can find the default Alienware logon image here:

To change the OEMLogo, the one you see when you choose Computer properties follow these steps (similar to Windows 7).

I'll also upload the OEMLogo i use on my Alienware systems.

    View attachment LOGO.BMP

This is completely accurate. You will be able to restore the look and feel without many workarounds on Windows 8.

Yeah, no need for an Alienware bundled Windows disc. Just install stock Windows 8 from Microsoft, and the OS itself along with several third-party apps should help you customize your Windows 'look and feel' just the way you like it!
