Hi all, I'm using GeForce GTX 260M
I've always been using 186.82 for as long as I can remember since I got this laptop in late 2009, referencing to this blog Alienware M17x - 'All Powerful': My M17x Configuration which appears inactive now.
Recently I got invited to the Battlefield 3 Alpha Trial and joined it but it gave a warning that my graphics driver was outdated and the minimum was 275.33 or something like that. The game launched anyway and played perfectly. To be safe I went to Dell's driver download page and updated to the latest 257.38 (forgetting to download the latest chipset driver as well).
This time the game failed to launch and by trial and error I rolled it back to 186.82 and worked perfectly again so I felt I would stick to this reliable driver.
A few days ago I was playing Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II : Retribution when the game felt choppier and laggier than usual for me, especially when there was alot of explosions going around onscreen. I figured something must have gone wrong during the roll back/update of the driver.
Just yesterday I downloaded the latest chipset driver for Nvidia and updated it, but didn't update my 186.82 version. I shut down the laptop and went to bed after. When I woke up and turned it on, every colour in my desktop, internet browser was fiercer, more noticeable the red colours such as on the icons of CCleaner, Mozilla Firefox etc, as well as the "yellow" folder colours in my documents etc. which if my eyes can comfortably recall were a dimmer, lighter yellow.
I tried fixing the problem by thinking maybe the problem is the incompatibility with the latest chipset and the old 186.82 driver so I updated it to the latest 257.38 driver again and restarted.
The problem still persists. Every colour still seems to be fiercer now. Did something go wrong between the driver/chipset incompatibilities, driver rotating or roll back procedure? I'm thinking I should check out device manager and uninstall the driver and reinstall it again but I don't want to be too hasty until I'm sure and get the go sign from any other expert here.
Please help?
