Hello everyone, I've had my Alienware m17x r3 for about two years. I have a few issues and one of these issues is causing problems with my gaming. The first issue is whenever I am trying to boot my pc up to do a factory restore by striking f8 on startup I don't get the option to recover via alienrespawn, and this causes me to have to use my discs which is sort of annoying. I was wondering is there a way to get that option back on, I have Alienrespawn installed on my pc at the moment but it doesn't show up as a recovery option.

My second issue has something to do with my graphics. I have an ATI 6870m card on my system. Whenever I am on power saving gpu everything is fine other than the fact I can't play any games with that setting. Once I turn on high performance gpu my cpu sometimes just shuts down without notice. I do know it was overheating because my gpu fan was broken, but I replaced that today and I am still getting shutdowns now. Please help me fix these issues!

Have you tried fixing the MBR? Insert the Windows DVD and boot from it, when it prompts if you want to install Windows on your computer hit Shift+F10, this will open a Command Prompt Window.

    Enter the following command:

    BootRec.exe /fixmbr

you can also substitue the /fixmbr with thes commands:

/FixBoot. Writes a boot sector onto the system partition to start Windows

/ScanOs. Scans all disks for Windows installations and displays them to you.

/RebuildBcd. Scans all disks for Windows installations and prompts you to pick the ones you want to add to the BCD.

As for the overheating problem, maybe the thermal paste wore out while the fan was broken, have you monitored temperatures while gaming lately?
