    Hi All,

I would like to ask some advise and help, this problem started or rather i started noticing after openning up my machine
    due to dust cleaning.

Suddenly a sudden drop on my volume control that the sound from the machine is only coming out on its left side.
i started tweaking the IDT Audio software and boosted it and think that it solved my problem.

But one day i search for Internal speaker of the alienware m17x r3 and it shows 2 seperate speakers which was weird
because on my machine sound only comes out on the left hand side and nothing on the right.

I could not tell if this was the same as before originally or i messed something up when i removed the 2 fan and a GPU for cleaning.

Could anyone of you guys help me out, im really getting bugged about this...

Hopefully my speaker is not dead. :(

    Live and Prosper.
    Michael. :(

The r3 has two internal speakers integrated beneath the palmrest, and you should be hearing sound from both the sides... since you are not, I think your right hand side speaker is not functioning...
Dont think your speaker is dead from the sounds of it, might be corrupted software setting or a disconnected/loose cable somewhere... Did you try install/uninstall/tweak anything related to the audio recently? Am guessing it might be more of a hardware issue which happened when you took apart your laptop for cleaning, but this would need a little more proof...

Ive looked around for alienware m17x r3 teardown. and seems the Internal Speakers can not be access from the back. which was the only part that i have open the laptop.
further more the only thing i cleaned and removed is the GPU and two fans and nothing more.

I had checked again this morning and see if there is a cable that connect the speakers from the back and 100% sure that you can't access anything from the speakers.

Is there any way to check if its software ?
When i do check the left and right sound through IDT Audio
From left it works but on the right panel it still use the left speaker but in lower volume.

and nothing as always on the right hand side of the laptop.

You can check if it's software related by using the test function in the Sound Control Panel. Click on your speakers, then right-click and select test.

Do you feel good enough with your skills to disassemble your R3 to get at the speaker and its wire?

Did you check the Playback Devices settings from Windows?

Sometimes in Windows 7 and 8
the balance in the sound settings can get messed up without you touching it. What I would recommend before opening it up is to double check the settings, just right click in the speaker notification on the right side of the taskbar and select Playback devices.

Double first select Speakers/Headphones, click configure and make sure that the configuration selected is Stereo, close that and then double-click Speakers/Headphones, click the levels tab and then the balance button. They all should move together once you hit the volume keys in the computer.

If this will be the last resort. Yeah i am. But im sure the fact that i just cleaned my GPU Grill and 2 Fans would not affect the speaker. I already double checked when i opened the back of the laptop. there is no access from the back to the speakers.

I will check again for the settings.
Strangely that my Left and Right sound is only coming from the single speaker located on the left side of the machine.

    Here is my Specs

    Win 7 Ultimate
    16GB Ram
    128GB SSD
    700GB HD
    i7 2780qm
    6900 ATI HD RADEON SERIES

    Fully Update with windows Update.
    Norton Internet Security.

No CC Cleaner or any third party Windows Registry Cleaner Installed.

I ask because the fool proof test involves you opening up the machine and swapping the left and right speakers around. If the left speaker is still the only one that has sounds after the swap, then it is definitely a motherboard or software based error. But if you swap the speakers and sound comes out the right hand side but not the left, then its confirmed its a bad speaker.

But Strange how did get not to work like that....
Anyway is there any guide you can suggest to me like a tear down for alienware m17x r3.

Dont worry i do stuff like this all the time but never tried it on the actual whole teardown bit.
and easy access to open the top keyboard part ?

    Thanks
