Hahaha, nah this m17x r4 is following me all the way, it'll eventually be like the typewriters our parents used to have.

Make an offer since price has gone up: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Nvidia...490959?hash=item2cdd7c974f:g:VgYAAOSwNo9b0ulz

Just be sure to use the stock vbios and it should be fine.

These are dell quadro p5000m pcb with 1070 cores as far as we know.

There was one member here that bought one. I forgot who it was.

But I would say those should work fine. If I remember correctly, when I asked them the vBIOS power limit they said 115w.

They seem to be Dell Quadro P5000M PCBs with the 1070 core. So they should be fine as far as I know. I would take that 1070 over a 1060 any day.

I just replaced the heatsink and placed a dozen copper memory passive heatsink which are made active with my cooling pad.

Now I can run max default clocks which is about 1886c/+750 memory in games so far and havent crashed yet. Max power consumption in HWInfo64 is 108w. Next on the list is to mod tdp to allow 140w.

The copper heatsinks are barely warm to the touch, and my temps are still 48c-51c while allowing max FPS instead of 90FPS (beyond that was overheating the VRMs)

Whats up People! hows it going? so I couldnt upload the pictures of the blown GPU because it wouldnt let me on any mobile device. Got my new GPU 3 days ago, I went with the GTX 1060 MSI version, having to be manually controlling the fans or depending on HWinfo with the zotac variant and I didnt want to cut the chasis for the MSI variant and then those ebay Variant ones seem sketchy, there si an Alienware m17x r4 for sale on ebay because a 1070 from ebay (china) is dying on him. So with the GTX1060 I dont have to cut anything, heatsink still works with some more mods, it pulls less than 100w so i',m sure it wont damage my mxm port or mobo who know... maybe i'm just bullshiting myself out of the 1070. I can tell you this for sure, the 3940xm in here is now overkill, the 1060 is bottlenecking the hell out of it in alot of games 99% usage vs 60% in what I play.

So my laptop just shutoff on its own while gaming and the white smoke came out of it, I Unplugged the laptop and removed the battery, I tried placing the battery back again but it would make short circuit sounds. so after I took it appart the only damage it had was what is circled in red... seemed like an easy fix, so I took it to a shop and upon removing the damaged part the actual board underneath it had burnt deeper and damaged the multiple layers in between the pcb apparently as shown in the second picture where you can see the different metal sheets underneath. They told me not to fix it as it could damage my laptop.

    2019-09-11 (3)_LI.jpg 2019-09-11 (2).png

I installed the 1060, and first impressions are, holly damn does it feel so good to have my fans spin on their own again +D I dont have to worry if my gf uses my laptop that she'll fry it or having a custom fan table on hwinfo and have my fans revvving up and then down all the time like crazy. I'm trying to keep this m17x R4 as stock, functional and brand new looking as possible so this was a step up on that matter. now the temps are not as different as I thought from the 1070 using liquid metal and fujipoly 17kw thermal pads but I assume its because Im Gaming under auto fans and not full hwinfo fan blast, Ill give it a try with manual fans and report back on the temps.

These are the scores with no overcklock what so ever not on the CPU or GPU, no throttle stop help, FULL fan manual Speed. great temps

    Capture.JPG

most of the time the gpu WONT go over 80w but here it did go up to 94.3w, my 1070 used to go up to 140w =( miss its performance, it really is so much better.
do all of your 1060's cap at 80w?

I was really interested in buying an Asrock 1070mxm but could never find info about Watt consuption, if I needed to flash Vbios and most importantly if the fans sppined automatically. and the 1070mxm cards are being sold for crazy expensive I mean you can sometimes get a whole Alienware 15 r3 with the 1070 for around $700 and the card it self is sold for $500. Its a rip off and dumb. but well sad story but atleast now its back up and running and more OEM performing than ever =D Maybe down the line if I get a very good price ill get another 1070  or maybe we get the 20 series mxm :p

One thing I really want for you guys to give me a hand with, and a bunch of people looking online for answer, is... right now that I installed the GTX 1060 I thought I was going to be able to use the HDMI IN succesfully as ive seen other users with this setup use it. I am getting audio from the HDMI IN but not video, the screen just goes black! while its on the HDMI IN.

    things ive tried:
    - Regedit the DisableHPDFakeMonitor =1
    - Uninstall all video drivers with DDU and clean install without geforce experience, only Drivers and Audio
    - Disable the video adapter from Device Manager
    -Try 3 different HDMI cables
-Try and install the intel hd drivers but windows wouldnt let me as I have the 120hz display so no optimus.
-Clean the port with brush and electronics cleaner
-Scream this, i'll sell you if you dont work , at the top of my lungs
-Then I tried more sources. (Nintendo Switch, Chromecast)

Called Dell support and ofcourse they dont know crap
so if any of you unnamed heroes out there could help, it could be a awesome thread on it own because nobody has been able to solve it.

    Glad to be back again.

Hey guys!!! Happy new year =) So does anyone know if we can upgrade the BLUETOOTH 4.0 on the 17xr4? I think it comes with the
"Dell wireless 380 bluetooth module" and my wifi car is the "Killer Wireless-N 1103 network adapter"

Im trying to use my Bluetooth headphones Sony wh1000xm3 with the laptop but when it conects the mic and speakers through the same Bluetooth 4.0 it limits it to one channel and sound like crap, I have to disable the mic so I get 2 channel stereo audio. hope its an easy upgrade for our beautiful M17xr4's =)

Swap the wifi card for something with BT 4.0, should be all there is too it. Only get Intel cards, if you want to hackintosh get a BC card.

Most of us use the ax200 or ax1650 with mpcie to m.2 adapter.

Of course that is a case by case basis though. Physical constraints being the obvious first concern.

If successful youll have Bluetooth 5.0 and wifi 6 capabilities.
