Hello everyone, I bought a second 5870m (removed from an MSI GX660), taking away the fact that it has the connector cross fire, the colors are different by testing it on the alien am attaching two images to understand:

while in the bios there are pins and needles on the screen, I state that with the 5870m pc there are only problems with this, I would understand if you just throw the card or if it is a problem of recognition bios different. Thank you.

Did you flash the vBIOS to a DELL version?

As far as I know only the Dell/Alienware (Red Color) 5870M MXM 3.0 cards offered the crossfire connector, and you said that you bought a MSI 5870 as a second card. So, really there is no way that you can use crossfire because there is no physical connection on the card, only the Dell/Alienware cards have this connection. Once you flash the bios you will be able to use the card as a single setup, but if you try and use this in crossfire there will not be any effect - both cards can be plugged into the laptop MXM slots but there will be no cable connecting the cards for crossfire. So basically, having 2 cards in your M17X like you are setting up now is pretty much useless. :(

ok I get it, I'm thinking about creating a connection between the two cards welding wire to wire (without using the cable which also does a bang for a wire then ....) I will keep you updated :)

bad news black screen after the update I know that the flash procedure is not successful (even if the message said that everything was fine) pen I created perfectly by following the guide ... Now I wonder if there qualcheprocedura recovery, I tried to put the good in slot 1 and 2 but in this bios freezes and will not turn off even if you held the key to starting of the engine, how can I do?

if you need to reflash the procedure I talked about in post #8 here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-17-m17x/736844-long-short-short-beep-code.html
    Might work...

I think it is all a matter if the card can still be detected using atiflash from the command prompt. Though I was not able to confirm this, because my card was totally dead, I believe that if you can still detect the card you can inject a vBios. Just have to be careful you send it to the card you want and leave the good card alone.

naturally you would put the bad card in the second slot

I tried it but unfortunately it hangs at bios and the image comes out only on the external screen and freezes, forcing me to turn off the power: (, I tried to remove the old bios of the card and the card good welding the same problem does not turn on ! I think the card is designed only to go with bios msi!, I try to retrieve a programmer usb to reflash hand even if I will need a new bios chip and to get from china will take a month: \ (pm25lv010) will let you know >. <

I honestly can't see the MSI card working in a crossfire configuration because from what I can see of the card it has no crossfire connector on it at all . I would say save yourself time and just try to find a dell card or go sell your HD 5870 and go with a single card set up with a 6970 or 7970 .

this is I have seen it, I'm going to solder wire to wire between the two boards (at least for me it is not a difficult thing) only what I suspect is that the card is not able to work with bios dell

I have found an MSI card in the Fs trade to show you a bigger picture . The MSI card lacks a Crossfire connector . If you where to ask my opinion I would honestly Dell and Clevo are the only cards likely to possess a crosssfire cable connector slot . I have uploaded a picture with the connector your card needs to have to work in Crossfire . I honestly don't think you could solder a cable to a card . Also flashing the Vbios of the MSI card could result in breaking the card .

I've already seen you can weld behind the connector there are places where solder the wires, are missing only a 4-5 that are on the back of the board but leaving this as soon as I buy the VBIOS and the programmer only that it will take them a month to reach :(

That's why I think you may better off buying a dell card so you don't have to flash bio's or solder anything . You could sell the MSI card and buy a Dell card and it will work automatically .

hello guys and happy new year to everyone, I wanted to inform me that today I got the chip to flash the result? the card will only work with BIOS MSI! , So I was not wrong to have to flash it, the first attempt was riflasharla with its original bios and the card worked "perfectly" (always the problem with the colors etc) with bios alienware / dell (bakup from my 5870) result screen black, now I will try to insert a asus bios and try to see what happens :p
