    Hi all,

My m17x's screen just broke. I would like to replace it but I have a pretty low budget right now.
    Would something like this work?

    NEW Dell Alienware M17X R2 1920x1200 Wuxga LED LCD Screen LTN170CT08 FR928 | eBay

The cheap price seem fishy. However, it is screen-only, not the assembly, and it is not a full RGB-LED one. It doesn't bother me though since I had the cheapest 900p version.

I know it is rather bothersome to change only the screen, but I came across this :
Dell Alienware M17x R2 Screen Replacement by TimsComputerFix.net - YouTube

Two things bother me actually :
1 - I'm not 100% certain that this is the right screen / low price seems fishy. Did I miss anything in the description?
2 - Since my screen is broken, I might have issue removing the old screen. The glass broke, and most likely some inner electronic, since it display random colored stripes of pixel along some black / white circles. I think the connector should be fine though, since the impact was on the middle of the glass.

Does it look like a suitable option to fix my laptop, or should I look into a full assembly instead?

    1. screen should work, but since you are switching from a 900p to rgb.
You will need the correct cable for your screen (ribbon cable HP693)

If the old screen is busted you could just destroy the screen plexiglas(removing this without breaking it is terrible)
And order a new glass for about 20 dollar

this is true, you'll need a new cable when going from 900p to RGB. You can either get the cable or get the same LCD that you currently have.

Thanks you both for the precious informations! So, eiter I get something like this NEW FOR Dell Alienware M17X Laptop LVDS LCD Video Cable Assy 0HP693 HP693 | eBay or I get a 900p one.

Are m17x r1's screen compatible with the r2? I just found this :
    Dell Alienware M17X 17" Wxga LCD Panel Hinges CAM G516T U519K LTN170BT10 | eBay

It's a full panel so it looks like less trouble. Upgrading to the 1200p would give me a better picture, but I would have to lower the settings in some games, so, well, I'd rather take the 900p assembly if it's compatible.
